Col Ach, you'll always get some reviewer that disna like the album. Nae everybody thinks that Exile is a masterpeice beleive it or not. It's music, subjective stuff. Looking forward to hearing Vodoos' review, a die hard perspective but will let my own ears decide on the 5th of September.

gotdablouse The music is probably going to be OK, but man, the song titles and the lyrics we've heard so far are idiotic, when is Mick going to stop writing songs about his dick ?! That alone is a sign that someone isn't doing their work by letting him get away with it. BOF sounds like philosophy comparted to the rest and RJ is "funny" I guess because of the animal similies and the "gazelle" that sounds like Chuck Berry at his best, but man the rest is shameful, honestly.

As far as the review, it really doesn't matter what other people think or say. It all ultimately is going to come down to what each listener thinks for themselves. Music is highly subjective.

With that being said, as one who has not heard the album and will not hear it until it is actually released, I'm very anxious to hear what Voodoo's opinion is and what his ideas may be when hearing this album. I look upon him as a highly respected source of information.

You've heard one track....So on what basis can a realistic opinion be based?..Geez even a laywer should know that....Oh and I know that I shall not be greeted. But I stopped worrying about childish things like that in public school.....

I agree but many on this board still worry about things like that. To them it's a badge of honor; a sign they have been accepted.

I wasn't going to reply and I know I shouldn't have but what the hell I just couldn't resist. As for responding to the lion boy quote a few post above, why bother?????

blackandblue Why bother? You simply can't reply cause you're talking nonsense.

O.K. I'll respond. I make up my own mind on what music I like or dislike. Each person is the ultimate judge of their own particular musical taste. However, that does not mean you have to exclude out other people's opinions or ideas. I read reviews; I read the French one with interest as I read the one before that. I'll read Voodoo's review with interest. These are other people's ideas or opinion and many, many times I find them interesting and learn from them. You shouldn't live in a vacuum where you exclude out all other people's ideas or opinions even if they don't necessarily agree with one's you have.

So the fact that I'm the ultimate judge of what I like or dislike doesn't mean I have to exclude other people ideas or opinions or to find them uninteresting. Got it???? It's really quite simple. Personally I don't find that nonsense at all. If you do, well what's the point in getting into a pissing contest?? We agree to disagree.

Jumacfly ok,ok, a quick review of the new "review": Sorry if it s not complete ...

RJ: a kind of Sad Sad Sad (lol)

Let me down slow: a kind of dead flowers of the new century...

It won t take so long: Basic Stones a la dirty work, Jagger sounds lazy with lyrics and melody on this one

Rain Fall Down: a mix of Sex Drive with "Goddess" sound arrangement

Streets of Love: that sucks (for them)

She saw me coming : funky with a chorus a la Britnet Spears (lol, they got good grass in paris )

Biggest mistake : country rock a la Dead Flowers ( so another one )

The place is empty: Keith 's ballad with a good accoustic guitar

Dangerous Beauty : typical stones song, boring rock!

Laugh,I nearly Died : Rn'B chorus, soul ballad which seems to suck ..

Sweet Neocon : funny Lyrics but the Stones seems to be at the bar !!!

Look what the cat dragged in : Stones 's self parody, boring

Driving too fast: heavy rythm, hard fm chorus (lol), any interest...

Infamy : Very Stax mood song from Keith, looks like, agreat tune with Mick 's harp and Winos vocals

Sorry for the style, but ,well,it's quite hard to translate!!

cheers!!
JU

BlindLemon Hi,
now this is the second French review, and it is pretty much saying the same as the first one. There is some crazy pointless rambling about how the passable becomes superb while people from the listening party discuss the record, and then the record is pretty much trashed. Like 3 or 4 songs get really positive reviews, the two Keith things and BOMH. The rest is either killed as trying too hard to be new, or as lacking real creativity, and just being the Stones ripping off people ripping off the Stones.
Not having heard the album myself (obviously), I only have one comment to make. The only reason why I think the album is actually going to be better than these french poodles think it is (excuse the metaphor, which is in no way intended to refer to the whole of la grande nation, I mean merely the ppl behind the reviews, who, I am convinced ARE in fact poodles) is because the Poodlemeisters seem to follow a simple recipe: Anything Keith and blues is SOOOO friggin KOOL, whereas if the Stones play rock, its "been there, done that" time, and whenever they get innovative its the "overproduced selling out" rant that comes on. Excuse this conjecture, but having lived in France for a while, these reviews to me stink of French elitism which considers blues and anti-establishment things cool as a definition, while staunchly resisisting temptations of "commercialism." I think its kind of a response to the frustration that the majority of the population voted for General Chickenhead de Gaulle after the 1968 protests, sg that just don't fit into the French intellectual psyche, now does it? This may sound weird to you, but really, the amount of "blues aficionado" programming on French radio and tv stations to me has been startling. And its all about looking seriously and saying "le blues" 15 times in 2 mins, always pausing and looking festive after having uttered the holiest of words, rather than discovering anything that is going on musically around them, be that blues or anything else. They have this roots-fused-with-being-antiestablishment thing going, its ideology taking over actually listening to the music, if u ask me. Seriously, if they had LISTENED to the songs, their criticism would have sounded otherwise, less focused on putting down the Stones by invoking everyone from the Georgia Satellites to Titney in obviously misplaced hyperboles, and more about the songs. So, in all, I would not be turned off too much. Tomorrow we shall know the truth, I believe.

I'm not following you on *every* conjecture, but I think you nailed down the basic pattern of taste at the Club des Stones pretty accurately! They don't like new stuff if it sounds new, they don't like it either if it sounds like classic Stones, then they think it's "self-parody"!

But maybe it's even simpler than that: Virgin didn't give a copy of A Bigger Bang to the fan club (for fear of p2p) but only let some of them listen to the record once. So I'd bet they felt in a bad mood and pissed off at Virgin and the Stones and it showed...

In the second review, they basically tried to water down their 1st, which seem to have displeased Virgin Records... LOL Well, it went round the message boards quickly enough! The weird thing is that a few reviews by Italian music journals at IORR, which were rather positive, didn't have the same impact. Maybe the fans don't trust the "industry press"... Or vinegar is more tasty than sugar!
