I think that's make a wonderful compilation title for Ronnie's solo stuff - "Popping Wood".
I just bought Live and Eclectic - most of which was recorded on my 7th birthday - and I love it. Even when Ronnie sings, I love it. Bernard Fowler has an amazing voice, too.
What of Ronnie's is automatic "must-get" stuff? Be it bootlegs or not?
Ah, and what should I listen to if I want to get a good idea of how Ronnie played last tour? And no, "The sound of someone being sick" does not qualify. Give us bootlegs!
-tSYX --- Sometimes, Ronnie, you're a little too much, come on! |

Another must would be his latest album: "Not For Beginners" which is just beautiful. Very warmly written ballads and great rockers.
"Slide On This" is a nice one to have.
Probably "Walking In The Moonlight" Philly '99 is a good recording to get to see how Ronnie did last tour. It's a soundboard recording and the mix is a little off and Ronnie's guitar is the only one really audible because Keith's isn't really heard quite well. |

Thank ye kindly - anyone got this loverly boot? Or can perhaps recommend some others, be they Ronnie '99 or just Ronnie's solo stuff in general? How was I've Got My Own Album To Do?

There are merits to all of Ronnie's solo albums. I'm particularly fond of 1234 (out of print on CD). Gimme Some Neck features Charlie,Mick and Keith and is very Stonesy. Now Look is also chocked full of little gems. Slide on This is a strong album as well...and the latest Not For Beginners shows a maturing Ronnie...a little mellower. |

So I bought Now Look and Gimme Some Neck in the City today- so far, Now Look has a few good ones amidst a sea of very mediocre ones. I'll put Gimme Some Neck in later tonight and we'll see.
What's this 1234 album, then?
Thanks for your help so far - Not For Beginners is on order and I'll keep looking for "I've Got My Own Album To Do" in the meanwhile, oh Australian Stoner.
-tSYX --- Ooohh, sweet Ronnie mine... |

Slide on Live was good. I really loved Prodigal son, would be nice to hear the Stones do it again live. |

Hey,
the next one you have to get is
Ronnie Wood and Bo Diddley LIVE AT THE RITZ.
Both play some of their tunes:
Best of Bo: Who Do You Love (on CD only), Crackin Up
Best of Ronnie: Plynth, Oh La La (so fucking beautiful) |

1234 is long out of print on CD - came out in Europe on a two-fer (with Gimme Some Neck) in late 80's. Japan has released it in the 90's...but again OOP.
It's his 1981 album - came out almost the same day as Tattoo You. It's got some very cool tunes, IMO. Outlaws is a great rocker - he does it live on the Ritz live album. Priceless is a very Faces-like tune. There's a very cool instrumental....great album. Worth seeking out. Occasionally shows up on Ebay auctions - usually gets at least $40. |
