Concert out of this world
By KEVIN CONNOR
Toronto Sun
Toronto's spectacular SARS-Stock was broadcast around the world and now the show will be seen in outer space.
Event organizers and the U.S. armed forces radio and television services are working on plans to show the concert to astronauts on the international space station.
"There is approval to show it on the space (station). We got amazing exposure. Things are positive as hell," said Sen. Jerry Grafstein, adding that Mick Jagger said it best at the concert when he told the world: "Toronto is back."
In the U.S., the concert -- attended by almost 500,000 people -- received more than 200 pages of coverage from major newspapers and 10.09 hours of airtime on network television, Grafstein said.
More than 800,000 American servicemen in 178 countries watched the show on a closed-circuit system as did the crews of 178 U.S. naval ships.
Organizers of the show have plans to sell simulcasts of the concert to television networks around the world, hopefully to make a pretty penny to benefit the city's health-care workers and hospitality industry.
The bottom line won't be available for about three more months, but the forecast looks good, Grafstein said, adding that "when the numbers come out it will all be win, win." |

Hopefully they will edit the Stones performance to make JT disappear in outer-space...also, maybe they can have the guitar parts overdubbed by Mick Taylor or some others who can still play....>: |

Like Mick said on Oakland 69, "Far Out!"
Thats gotta be so nice for those Russian Cosmonauts.
Aren't they only 2 people currently in space now? Both Russians?
See you on Aldebaran, safe on the green desert sand... |
