Topic: Parmeda & Telecaster at Muddy Waters Exhibit & Museum Return to archive
August 5th, 2005 04:38 PM
Gazza Pammy sent Voodoo and myself an e-mail with this cool pic, which she's given me permission to post. So hopefully it'll upload OK

(Tele is the one on the left in case you didnt know..)

...having a crazy time yesterday at a Muddy Waters exhibit & museum...yeah, baby!
And if you look very carefully, the photo on the wall has Keith, Ronnie & Charlie with some members of Muddy's family that was taken at a party at Muddy's home. No Mick, though...he probably was the one that shot the damn picture!

It was extremely touching to see that out of all of the photos on display, there were only two others that showed Muddy with "other people"...There was a priceless one with him & Chuck Berry walking arm-in-arm, laughing their asses off...and the other was with Eric Clapton on stage.

Telecaster insisted that I brought my camera in to take a few pictures...and under protest, lol...he insisted that I send this one to both of you.

From macspages.com

This photo is one of the reasons Pam and I met

My buddy took that photo

He gave away the rights to the entire photo shoot for
$0.00

He was 21 at the time and just learned photography

He didn't understand "rights" and "copyrights" etc.

He was hired to do a photo shoot and it was Muddy and The Stones

Anyway

He has more and I will post them soon

Yes Glencar and Joey, it is 1978

This is the caption from Mac's Pages (link always on top of this board)

"The great Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon, daughter Shirley Dixon, Keith Richards, Woody, a very proud Mac, unknown & Charlie Watts backstage at Soldiers Field, Chicago 1978

I met Shirley Dixon at 2120 S. Michigan Ave - she and her mom were minding the store the day I was there. When I tried to tell her how much her dad and that building meant to me it came out all sideways and I sounded like I was speaking pig latin while having a seizure. Shirley (or did she spell it Shirlee?) put her arms around me as if to say "aw, you poor thing...please be quiet now...I know what you're trying to say..."

Someone said that Shirley died recently. I don't know if that's true or not. If it is, it makes me sad, because she was a great person.

I pulled this off the internet:

May 2003

May 31st

Skoller is invited to be a featured artist on the main stage of the Chicago Blues Festival to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the festival. Skoller joins several of his colleagues for this tribute including: Billy Branch , Carl Weathersby, Larry McCray , Melvin Taylor , Shirley and Butch Dixon , Barrlehouse Chuck and others. The event was hosted by Shirley Dixon and Koko Taylor. Skoller pulled double duty that afternoon accompanying Soul/Blues veteran Johnny Rawls on the Crossroads stage.

A few weeks later (daughter of the late Willie Dixon) 40 year old Shirley Dixon, vocalist, Blues Heaven Foundation leader , blues community organizer and activist suddenly and tragically dies from natural causes in Chicago. She will be sorely missed.
