Topic: Bootleg Trades thread Return to archive Page: 1 2
August 3rd, 2005 04:09 PM
keithriffhard I'm opening a bootleg trades thread for all of the people who don't get the bit torrents thing. This will be where someone will offer up a bootleg title, a person interested in the bootleg will private message that person with a trade for them. They will send each other their addresses and what they are sending and trade the bootlegs.

P.S- If anybody would like to inform me about how to do the bit torrent thing I'd appreciate it (Newbie).

Down;oad a bittorrent client, then go to a site, like dime a dozen and find a show. Download the torrent, then drag it into the client and the show will beging to DL to your PC, probably in FLAC. format. Yout hen will need a converter to decompress the show. I know this sounds complicated, but it's not. It just takes some noodling around. There's also alot of FAQ's to read and once you get going you'll look back and realize how easy it was. Just DO IT! It's fun.

Sadly, as computer savvy as I once was, i have not been able to successfully use the bit torrent method...i have tried several times. I will need to have an expert over to my new place when i move in and have it shown to me step by step.
August 3rd, 2005 04:35 PM
keithriffhard hey pdog, what's the best bit torrent downloading client and where can I get it?
August 3rd, 2005 04:39 PM
Poplar
i find bit just a little too much hastle. kinda makes me miss the old days of just throwing shit in the mail.

anyways - there are sites out there with shows (mp3) downloadable for free (no software required) you just gotta look around, a la shakedown street.

gimmekeef I consider myself resonably well versed..gave up on torrenst..too many aspects involved...Wish a detailes step by step was available...seemed slow...anyway yes lets trade!
August 3rd, 2005 04:45 PM
keithriffhard hey gimmekeef, could you please post for all to see your bootleg list? I'm interested too!
August 3rd, 2005 06:31 PM
Dan I am on dialup so no bit torrent for me.

My DVD trade list is here but I just got flooded with a few huge packages Monday so its time to slow down a bit. I am mainly just looking for 2005 stuff by various bands

So, what you're really saying is you're not a self starter!
Who'd have thunk it?
I'll teach but I charge $200.00 an hour!

chris girard If someone wants to trade with me I have a lot of stuff from their last tour.I just started then and got a pretty nice collection thru B & P. I've tried bit torrent and its pretty time consuming and I have cable connection. I'd rather B & P and mail stuff. Leave me a message here and I will eamail my list if you're interested. I'd like to continue to get stuff from this tour. I go to Ulf's list every once and while and he always has stuff to download.

M.O.W.A.T. What is everyone using to burn what was downloaded from the torrents. I use the iTunes software (with gaps set at 0) but I still get little clicks between tracks.
August 3rd, 2005 09:32 PM
beer I just did my first successful Bit Torrent Download!

Holy shit, i had no idea what i was doing, but i finally got it work. plus i had to figure out how to play FLAC files, and i know nothing about this kind of stuff.

I highly suggest giving BT a try.

Download Flac Front End, you can convert the flacs to wav files.
I use EAC to rip and burn all wav files, somebady asked above!
Flacs are easy to convert. Took me about 5 minutes to figure out Front End, i kept dragging the files and was getting no luck. Then realized that there's a button to load the files from a windows menu.

beer Hi Pdog,

Yeah, i downloaded a program that will convert songs from Flac to WAV pretty much instantly. Then i just burned em to disc.

It took some trial and error and a bit of frustration, but i got it all to work.

I fucking hate those little clicks too.

So is the consensus here that "throwing shit in the mail" (well put!) has become obsolete? Doesn't anyone else love getting brown paper packages tied up with strings? Personally, it's one of my, er, favorite things. Somebody needs to send me something quick.

I'm bummed about the Rocks Off tracker. I started trying to DL two tittles but now there's no one seeding them.
What did you get?
I'm supposed to get a copy of LA 1981 soundboard, I'll try to put it up before I go on vacation.
August 4th, 2005 12:04 AM
beer I just went to Dimeadozen.org and was looking for the Dylan show I saw last week. Couldn't find it so I tried DLing another recent Dylan show just to see if I could get it to work, and it did.

It will be cool to get the new Stones shows via Bit Torrent!

keithriffhard alright well the point that I started this thing was for all of us to trade amongst each other not debate about whether torrents are good or not. If they are for you then do it, but if you like to do it the old fashioned way, please PM way with trade lists and we'll trade.
August 4th, 2005 12:31 AM
beer sorry.

I forgot that the only off topic posts allowed at Rocks Off are pictures of dogs and political bullshit.

Bloozehound I've been riding the BT train (choo choo) for about a year now

Right, we are talking about boots, the way we obtain them is a part of collecting them and discussing them.
FUCK!
I need a vacation, everything is getting on my nerves today!
People need the face the facts, like I did, burnnig and mailing stuff is now the old fashioned way. Accept it, learn and move on. I figure I can actually save money. No more postage, and no more buying of tons of CD-r's to burn in the hopes some dickhead really will reweed it or whatever. Forget trees and vines. Pain in the ass!

August 4th, 2005 01:10 AM
keithriffhard don't you burn your files on to CDs' anyway?

Yes, But I've also been very generous in my trading group. Now I can generous w/o spending money.
August 4th, 2005 02:09 AM
keithriffhard I see where you are coming from, sorry. I just think we should make a system where if the other people who don't have anything to trade can also send blank DVDRs' or CDRs'to the other trader in exchange for a bootleg.

going by experience from the Dylan and Springsteen tours this year, you can expect to see most of them uploaded within days or even hours of the show taking place.

No doubt they'll appear on our own tracker as well, which is the main reason why we set it up. Things will be busier once the tour starts, I'm sure

I still havent seen that Dylan show you were at appear as a BT yet, but I'd imagine its only a matter of time
August 4th, 2005 08:25 AM
gimmekeef Gazza, I know once the tour starts the torrents will become very popular for those of us that haven't figured it out.couple questions/requests..First how long should it take to download a whole cd complete set of files (roughly)?Second is there a way someone could do a step by step A-Z help type process and post here so we can give it a go!....If you guys are using it I assume its the way we all should at least look...Yes I like the brown packages too..but its a new dawn.....reminds of the way porn used to arrive!!!!

I use Nero 6 software which does a lot of things beside basic burning:
You can change Itunes mp4's to WMA or Mp3
It will get rid of the track clicks and you can even change and edit the tracks individually
There also is great ways to create custome lables with pics et all
The only thing I havenet figured out with Nero is how to create and print track lists..maybe someone can help me with that....good luck!!!!!!

Factory Girl Why is bit-torrent superior to "old fashion" trading?
