STONES 'LIVE LICKS' ALBUM DUE OUT
by Skippy

Virgin Records won't confirm they are releasing a Rolling Stones album due
out late this Summer (September 1, 2004 in Japan). The alleged album is
live compilation from LICKS 2002-2003.

The double album is supposed to feature two different live Rolling Stones
albums packaged together. Disc one will feature big hits and disc two will
feature non-hits. Or as our SFJ correspondent reported is for 'beginners'
and disc two is features 'rare tracks'.

SFJ heard last year that there would be a live Licks live album but the
rumors didn't seem to pan out. The Rolling Stones did record the audio of
several club concerts including Stockholm and London. If we do get a live
album, don't expect a rehash of Four Flicks.

The Stockholm show in particular saw an unbelievably great beginning eight
songs which included "Hand of Fate", "Dance" and "Worried About You" that
make the Paris versions on Four Flicks pale in comparison.

If this album is released we expect it will Japan only as many USA and UK
retailers are gearing their web site to sell this "Live Licks" as an import
only and in Japan it's not listed as an import. So far Tower Records and
HMV are the only retailers listing the double disc.

tumblingdice01 The Stones did not do Dance in Stockholm Cirkus. But it was the most incredible show that I have ever seen.

The first 8 tracks were:

Start me Up
Live with Me
Neighbours
Hand of Fate
No Expectations
Worried About You
Heartbreaker

The other 11 were not bad either!

Moonisup I don't think they'll put Live with me on the new album, cos it was already on No Security

Honky Tonk Man I don't really see what is so good about this news. Yes IT'S GREAT that there are going to be rarities, but I don't like the idea of it being import only.

Also, The idea of having a sort of "best of the live albums" disc is just the pits.

Gazza I don't personally think it will be a Japanese only release. Makes no sense to even bother releasing it in that case, especially a double CD.

There's already been a Sept. 6 (Europe) and Sept. 7 (US) release date mentioned previously so I'd imagine it'll be released OK in those markets.

I still don't think a Stones live album is something they need to release - with the Stones contract about to expire the timing of this release smacks of contractual cash-in by Virgin/EMI to me, - but if the whole album is previously unreleased material, its a step up from the ludicrous idea of having a single CD's worth of previously released material.

Okay, so this isn't going to happen now!

Well if thats the case, then I guess I'm quite looking forward to this new release.

Fingers crossed the Licks Paracute Woman will be on there!

justinkurian I agree w/Gazza that it'll be released internationally...but a few years ago, Dylan (or Columbia) released a Japan-only live release that spanned his whole career & it contained many rarities.

Monkeytonkman Whats the chances of Live licks being released on vinyl?

Completely bummed out when i couldn't get hold of a copy of LICKS on vinyl, I have every other album on vinyl and I thought they'd release it on this format. Lots of other bands still release their albums on vinyl, surely the Stones should.

ah, whatever, i'm giving up the ghost man.

exilestones@netscape It looks like the plans for this new album are released yet and nobody know all of the details. Looks like Sticky Fingers Journal and It's Only Rock and Roll has a little info and are trying to piece the puzzle together.

Gimme Shelter I'll definately be buying it now.
