Topic: anyone sat in the 'on stage' seats? Return to archive
1st August 2006 11:45 AM
Lethargy Has anyone sat in the on stage section this tour? Wondering if it was good, was it lame, etc. I don't think I'm going to do any stadium's this time around, unless it was something special, like the on stage section. Tired of sitting in lame ass baseball seats 2 miles from the band.

I did the ONSTAGE at Soldier Field last time around. It was worth doing once, but not as nice as first 10 rows or so. I enjoyed it, but if you get stuck in a box with some drunk beligerants, it can hinder the enjoyment, thankfully we had three people ejected from our box and we had more room to enjoy the show.

I would not do it for $500, spend that money on a front seat, at $75...absolutely, at $250...do it once.

People got booted? What for? That's funny. Can you imagine dishing our $100s for tickets only to be kicked out of a show?

No one sits in them, lethargy. thats the thing. Contrary to the blurb, you stand. See Throbby's review on the experience in one of the other recent threads about tickets for the upcoming show

additionally, you dont get to see the opening act, you wont see much of anything when the band are at the b-stage and the drinks options are somewhat limited

Someone on IORR actually justified the price tag the other day by saying that "you get a great view of the crowd". As if thats what you come to a show and pay $500 for.

Plus on the last leg the tickets were $75 and $250....'nuff said

I dont know if you saw the No Security tour, but they had behind the stage tickets for that tour which were sold at $40 as a an excuse (and a honest one) to fill the venue by offloading cheap seats with an appropriate price tag, which was the cheapest ticket in the house. People I know who experienced both that and the onstage 'seats' say that theres effectively little difference - and the NS idea was perhaps even better.

Its the old adage that if you rebrand 'dogshit' by calling it 'chocolate', someone will pay money for it. I'm convinced that a lot of people who havent seen the show this tour are buying these tickets because they think if it says "on stage" and the price is very high, then that means they really ARE going to get something special and they will literally be on the stage next to the band.

I had front row center back at I believe was $50. Bought it last minute. Got to see how weird Keith's hair is. Well worth $50.

They group you together and go over a list of rules over and over, basically they say you are held to a higher standard of behavior, and due to the danger that could be caused to the band (by throwing stuff towards the stage) and others in your box, by pushing as there are several stairs.

We had two guys in our box that were drunk to the point of barely standing up, they dropped two beers out of the box (top level) and spilled a few more in the box and kept falling into a couple of women in our box.

After about three songs or so, there were several fans in our box and adjoining box wanting to beat the shit out of these guys and rightfully so. Security tossed them as to not cause an incident. I am sure they probably didnt even know they were thrown out until the next day.

You couldn't throw me into those crap on-stage seats...
Everyone said the same thing, it was okay, I wouldn't do it again. That speaks volumes about how much shit we allow to happen to us b/c we are devoted hardcore fans!
They're blowing songs, Ronnie's playing is horrendous, Keith screws up simple chords, Jagger needs to read the lyrics off a screen. And yet, we say, well it wa okay. So is masturbating with sand and vaselline or slamming your dick in a door I suppose.
Fuck The stones, I hope they play the 4 shows listed and on sale and quit, it's over!

zipmouth I did it in Durham, $250.00 a "seat". This was the first show after the bomb scare in Charlottesville, VA, NO DRINKS, NO PACKAGES (merchandise you purchased had to be "coat checked"), escorted down to the restroom and as has been mentioned, there are about six to eight to a "box" that means to layers deep. While we were escorted to the rear of the stage, many tried to jockey to a better place in line. Two couples that had been behind us for near an hour, suddenly were in front of us in the same box!! One of which bragged about being so tall enabled him to see well, while standing in front of my guest, who stands 5'3" (And yes they are a Rocks Off Member)! As I told the Stones staff that night, the worst seats I've ever had at a Stones show in the past 31 years!

egon the onstage experience is great and you should thank
the stones for giving you the opportunity against
such a resonable price. I mean it's almost like YOU are
a bandmember.

Also please get a 2nd membership with RO.con
and do not forget to buy the new single (both versions).

And whilst you are in the store, why not pick up a copy of
rarities? it's so rare, almost no one has it...

^ LOL!

the seats sound like a rip off. Plenty of complaints about it so far.

I must say that the pics in the Amsterdam show thread look cool though.

_Boomy_ Yeah, now they're $500 ($502.50 at Gillette before the additional fees and taxes).

Unless they're actually going to let people stand on the stage, I don't understand the huge mark-up. But it's the Rolling Stones: who knows how in the hell they're getting away with this stuff!

Who says they're getting away with it?
4th August 2006 12:15 PM
_Boomy_ Well, they may not be selling out yet, but to me you're "getting away with it" when it's an officially posted face value on a website. I'm sure that if I walked up to the ticket office they'd tell me the seats are $500, right?

So, for the time being, they're "getting away with it."

Oh, and he even mentioned something about it yesterday at the Grand Canyon:

4th August 2006 12:33 PM
Strange_Stray_Cat It might be a cool idea to commit suicide by jumping on the stage....

throbby The Stones play to the many in front, not the few behind. I'm thinking we in the "above stage pens" received one or two waves from the band. Couldn't see Charlie too well thanks to the stage rigging. Couldn't really see Mick when he was directly under us. The rail I'm thinking was about 4 1/2 feet high and there wasn't enough room for everyone on the rail. If you weren't on the rail the visual really sucked. You also had to keep in mind the line of sight for those in the box next to you. They were quick to let you know whenever an upraised arm was blocking their view. To my ears the sound was boomy, base heavy, and somewhat distorted. I was in box 3, the lower level on Ronnie's side. Box 5 or 6, on either side lower level, are the best boxes if you're thinking of doing it. When they start the lineup to go up to the boxes, they do it per side and box, don't dilly dally or you will not have a spot on the rail.

Let me see, we were given a laminate to wear and cheap white wine to drink whilst waiting for the opening act to finish their set. You will be given an escort when going to the bathroom (porta john) behind the stage. Good luck.

Some Guy They saw the crowd views are stellar.
4th August 2006 12:47 PM
Saint Sway wow Throbby. That sounds awful.

I'm glad you've gotten to plenty of other shows with great seats though
4th August 2006 12:48 PM
throbby For 75.00 I might watch the crowd stand there with their mouths open, but not 500.00

For those so inclined box 6 is still availabe for Gillette.

actually the sound in Soldier Field was pretty good. Along with my fear of fish, I am not real comfortable with heights, so I was a bit nervous at first, but got over it.

Intersting one time experience. If I was able to get tickets for 250 or less, I'd do it again as long as I did not have seats in the first 15 rows front or side stage. Not worth 500 IMO, because brokers can get you in the first 8 rows for that typically.
4th August 2006 12:54 PM
throbby Hey Saint Sway! Front and center at the Giants B-stage more than made up for it. In my view those are the tickets worth seeking out. Even if it is only for 12 minutes.

Gary Busey Mr. Cohl

I believe you and I had an encounter at the Hollywood Bowl show. I was baffled when you approached me and asked if you could rub your beard on my chest, but as the weeks went by, I regretted now letting you do so.

I felt a spiritual kinship after that. If I may ask, could I please join you on this tour and be somewhat of an opening act? My publicist will cover all costs; I, however, am just interested in preaching the gospel of the shark-finned dolphin.

What I will do is wear a dolphin suit and chant lyrics from Better Than Ezra songs. I will then apply shaving cream to my testicles. Please consider this. This will change peoples lives.

COHL stands for "Cool Old Harry Legs"

Your Ass Hair,

Gary Busey
