I've been thinking about the summer of 82 shows a lot lately and today marks the 25th anniversary of the end of the tour at Roundhay park in Leeds .It turned out to be Stu's last gig with them and the end of an era IMHO.
What emerged in 1989 was, for better or worse, a more "Vegas" touring show.
It was a great day with a support line up to remember;
George Thorogood and the Destroyers
Joe Jackson
J Geils Band.
Funny how I can remember details of this and the Wembley show more clearly than Subsequent ones.
Keith's guitar was fucking LOUD.
Happy days

Nice bit of reminiscing. Agree it was the end of an era. i read that there were 125,000 at that show, which is incredible as it was added pretty hastily at just a few weeks notice after all the other 4 stadium shows in England sold out so fast (215,000 tickets)
our line up the day before at Slane was The Chieftains, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, J Geils Band and then the Stones. |
