"John Entwistle's Ex-Wife Slags Late Who Bassist In Australian Newspaper

(7/30/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- The former wife of the late John Entwistle slags her ex-husband in a newly published interview in an Australian newspaper. Under the headline "Who's bitter, who's best...", Maxine Entwistle calls her ex-husband a womanizer and an emotional and financial mess.
The former Mrs. Entwistle says the singer-bassist and his Who bandmates Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey were not friends, contrary to popular opinion, and that the trio only got together when necessary for concerts or recording sessions.
She also says the groupmembers had an "uncontrollable envy of (Rolling Stones frontman) Mick Jagger--for the money he made, which they never could; for his business acumen, which they never had; and for his continued success, which they couldn't emulate," according to the Melbourne (Australia) Herald Sun.
Maxine Entwistle goes on to say that her late ex-husband lived a far more extravagant lifestyle than he could afford, which included maintaining a 53-room Gothic mansion in England and traveling only by private plane. She tells the paper that Entwistle was in debt and feared bankruptcy, but that before the Who even hit the road for its current North American tour, he had lost his $1 million advance to gambling debts.
She adds that she's sure there was a woman in Entwistle's room at the Hard Rock Hotel And Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, the night he died, but she's quick not to use the term "prostitute." "I am absolutely certain there will have been a woman, but John never had to pay for sex. John couldn't stand to be alone. He needed sex and loved being the big rock star," says the woman who divorced him in 1997 after eight years of marriage.

Womanizer, gambler, drugs and alcohol...then mix in resentments...this is classic addiction people...and it does NOT discriminate...sounds like he died from abuse on all fronts. This is so sad....to be so talented and artistic, yet to be unhappy and lose oneslf in the vices...which will consume you...and take you down.
