justinkurian Guy Rolls With Richards, Santana On New Album

By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Buddy Guy collaborates with everyone from Keith Richards and Carlos Santana to John Mayer and Keb' Mo' on his new album, "Bring 'Em In." Due Sept. 20 via Jive, the set finds the 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee putting his own slant on material popularized by Curtis Mayfield, Johnny Taylor, Isaac Hayes and Otis Redding, among others.

Mayer guests on a cover of Redding's "I've Got Dreams To Remember," while Santana drops by for a version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You." Elsewhere, Richards straps on his six-string for "Price You Gotta Pay." The set also features a new Guy original, "What Kinda Woman Is This."

"Bring 'Em In" was recorded in Memphis at Royal Studios, with several arrangements supplied by longtime Al Green collaborator Willie Mitchell. Among the other musicians contributing to the set are drummer Steve Jordan (who also produced), bassist Willie Weeks, keyboardist Bernie Worrell and guitarist Dannie Kortchmar.

The album is the follow-up to Guy's 2003 effort "Blues Singer," which debuted at No. 3 on Billboard's Top Blues Albums chart.

Guy will hit the road in North America in the fall, with appearances already confirmed at Farm Aid (Sept. 18) in Tinley Park, Ill., and Texas' Austin City Limits Festival (Sept. 24). The artist will also play three shows in Brazil in late November.
