Topic: onstage seating - update..? Return to archive
July 29th, 2005 05:22 PM
mac_daddy i picked up a cheapy to the SD show today via ticketmaster (just to make sure i can get in)...

anyway, along with 5 member passwords (the non-ticket ones), the good folks at rs.com sent this info...

"Watch the show from right on stage! The Fan Club will be holding a stadium show contest where some very lucky fans will win a chance to watch a show from right on stage. This contest will be offered for each and every stadium show on the tour. As the band spends the summer preparing to hit the road, the Fan Club will be announcing multiple ways for members to get in on these very special tickets. Stay in touch with rollingstones.com for more details."

i hadnt seen those details before - is this new news..?

Ya...when they're on the main stage, you're on the b-stage and vice versa!

Well, at least it seems like there will be a fair chance for any fan to win at the "onstage Stones lottery"!

so this is new news, then..?

Monkey Woman Not "new" new, maybe, but some people here and there took fright when they saw the charity auctions for some of the onstage seats... Like $150,000 apiece...
So maybe it's interesting to confirm that not every of those are for the super-rich.
July 29th, 2005 07:49 PM
mac_daddy i just didnt realize they were going to do something for ticketholders...

i thought the onstage seating would be different tix altogether, and this is the first i heard otherwise...

so i guess they will randomly pick ticketholders at each stadium...

are they going to split up groups..? pairs..? or are they just going to pull orders out at randomn, and all tix in that group get up on stage...

is that really correct that these will be on the bstage, and runway..? that would be cool - hard to get beer, though...

Gazza none of those seats should be auctioned off. End of story.

Can you just imagine winning one of those seats and having to sit in front of some arsehole telling you to "sit the hell down" because theyre not excited enough at the idea of the band playing 6 feet away to get up off their fat pampered asses and dance a bit?

If those wankers were sittin behind me think I'd end up being the first fan to be forcibly escorted off a Stones stage since that poor bastard that got whacked on the head by Keith's guitar back in Hampton in 1981

Monkey Woman If they want to avoid that kind of scene, they should well separate the "privileged rich buyers" area from the "lucky bastard ticketholders" area! And take care that the two are not too near! Or there will be some new mayhem for the record!

Gazza Any able bodied person lucky enough to get on-stage tickets for a Rolling Stones concert but who cant get off their asses and get into the spirit of the occasion should be blindfolded, escorted to the b-stage and then shot.

You remember that scene in the "Undercover" video? Something like that, basically

iluvmickjagger07 are there alternative ways of winning those seats?
bc im not a member of rs.com.
i would love to have that view of mick shaking his 62 year old buttocks

corgi37 Well, we Aussies wont get the chance as we only get the arena shows.

But, should make for an interesting dvd. If indeed, the dvd of the tour is a stadium gig.

But, really, how fucking great would it be?
July 30th, 2005 04:57 PM
Gazza VERY fucking great, my son, VERY fucking great
July 31st, 2005 10:47 AM
gimmekeef There should be some kind of Stones IQ test to qualify for these tickets.Knowledge of songs tours etc.Weed out the corporate fucks who'll be pains in the asses....But somehow I have a feeling this on stage thing will have us up in arms....After all Cohl is involved right?
July 31st, 2005 10:51 AM
gimmekeef Actually one though I had was...in most stadium tickets roll outs some fan clubbers (like me) got up front rows for $99 instead of the $450....so they email a few weeks before and say...For only $351 you can be on stage!...hmmmmm.Then they resell those front few rows again for $450 ea...They wouldnt do that would they?....lol
July 31st, 2005 02:22 PM
Gazza No, dont be silly...

they'd sell them for $4,500 - not $450.

That would be about right!
The mysterious world of the V.I.P holder springs to mind.

I get so jealous of those people it's untrue!! Only for certain things though, like your Stones concert!

Monkey Woman What annoys me about the "charity auction" for onstage tickets is that many of the buyers are not merely rabid fans who happen to be rich, or even philantropic souls who want to do their bit for charity. (If they were truly devoted to good causes, they could give the tickets to needy fans!) No, it's more about the feeding of an already oversized ego, and pointless competition with other shallow characters who don't know what to do with their money.

Think about it: some of these people have simply bought the right to be close enough to Mick to breathe the same air for two hours' time, when the best they could get on their own name and achievements would be a brief hello-how-are-you at a showbiz or high society party, a mere brush with the kind of celebrity that leaves far behind the "15 minutes of fame" everybody can allegedly have once in their lives.

really? I'm not remotely jealous. I'm glad I have some priorities and perspective in my life where I can see that anyone so desperate for entertainment that theyre willing to pay a few grand to see a concert needs their head tested.

Its something I'd certainly never aspire to.
August 1st, 2005 07:42 AM
egon i don't know about this "on stage" thing.

it's like......
going to a very expensive restaurant & then eat in the kitchen; it tastes fantastic, but something just ain't right.

i'd still go though.

Fortunately for me I've been a V.I.P at an Eddie Izzard comedy gig and it cost my naff all, only because my second cousin is his manager.

A few is a bit much like! I wouldn't pay that kind of money.

I just wish that the onstage tickets are going to be dished out fairly and with a price tag that's affordable to the everage Joe.
That's all, but that's utopia!

Martha Excerpt from this Rolling Stone article: " And for the first time ever, the stadium set will feature a second stage on which approximately 400 audience members will be seated, in the middle of the show. Those lucky fans, said Jagger, "will get a great view of our bums.""

luxury1 I didnt see that MonkeyWoman. All this has got me crazy with worry/anticipation. I like gimmekeef's idea of a Stones IQ test. That would certainly weed them out, wouldnt it? I have always said they should do something like that for the REAL fans--at every concert--and put them in the best seats. OK, I shall email RS.Com now......
