Save your money. $9.33 through Ticketmaster means free in the parking lot.

crb69 I adore the Black Crowes and have seen them a few times, HOWEVER, I recently saw them at PNC Bank arts Center in NJ and the show sucked. Aside from the poor security allowing the twenty somethings to hang in the ailes blocking fans view of the stage, the set list was lame. The band played to the first 20 rows, not the entire audience. They did a lot of their mellow songs and some real lame ass covers. Only die hard fans who follow this band would be familiar with half of the material that was played. I went with 4 other people who all agreed half way through the show that it was time to go. So, beware of boring jams. They in fact opened the show with an acoustic jam. To me it sounded like they were trying to get their shit together all night. Guys, put down the peace pipe for a while...and get your shit together...

Saint Sway I was at PNC show. The show was very heavy on jamming. So if thats not your thing....

Definately not a show for the casual fan. You know they're catering to the die hards when they open with a jam and go into "Waitin Guity" - an unreleased song. Pretty frickin cool if its a band you love that does that, but I can see how someone who's there to have some beers and hear the some hits would be put off.

they closed the show with a rippin "Around & Around" that somehow managed to be even fiestier than the Stones Love You Live take of it.

I'm going to the Philly show.

heres the set list. Like I said, cool if a band you love plays a set like this - imagine Stones opening with Jivin Sister Fanny and doing Winter, Crazy Mama, Casino Boogie, Connection etc... - of course, you'd flip. But if you're not a diehard you're gonna be wondering what the hell they're playing.

playing the sheds, I think they should cater more to the summer crowds. But being a fan I'm selfishly happy they're not

crb69 Hey, the thing is I LOVE the improv jamming. Waiting Guilty is one of my favorite tunes that they do. I think the new DVD is great. I actually prefer the Crowes over the Stones today as a guitar player because of the freedom of improv. I was standing in the second row, section 201. Not bad seats despite the fact that the big column blocked most of the sound. I felt like I was behind the stage. I was buzzed enough to enjoy the show as well. I just felt that they got stagnant real quick. Someone on their message board even said they thought the "boy" cover song was a bad choice and that the crowd went into a lull. My buddy thinks they should have waited a while before jamming so much. Maybe it was the fact that we had to walk 2 miles in the rain to get there from the parking lot? I dunno, I just thought the "show" was disappointing compared to the Hammerstein show I saw last year in NYC. I think the Crowes do much better in a theatre rather than out door arenas. The thing is, no one is familiar with most of the covers that they do...Alabama? where did that tune come from? They should record more of these songs so the fans know what they are hearing. I know, Lost Crowes is coming out in August...I already downloaded most of it a year ago. I just felt left out of the loop so to speak and my friends who are casual fans thought they SUCKED! I never thought that would happen. But like I said to them, you win some you lose some...enjoy Phili man!

crb69 Alabama ~ Neil Young. No wonder, I never got into him. We left during Downtown Money waster. I heard a big fight broke out during that tune down in front. As a matter of fact I had a few inconsiderate assholes standing in the isle in front of me talking and joking around during the show. I almost kicked one guys ass but figured he wasn't worth the arrest or lawsuit. That was probably what brought me down. I don't get it though. Some shows at PNC have real strict security. That night was real lax...I should have moved around instead of staying in my seat getting pissed. Maybe next time...thanx for the rant.

By the way, I was sorry to have missed Around & Around. I just feel if the band is that bored with playing their own songs so much they should get their ass in the studio and write some songs. Put out a CD and tour. Don't play a bunch of cover songs that most people don't know cause you might lose your fanbase. I'm under the impression that the crowes know they will only go so far in popularity so they will play what satisfied them and their diehards. After this last show I would have to really consider going again to see them. The Stones do covers also, but they usually do one and make a production out of it so even if you don't know it you enjoy it. The Crowes did an acoustic jam show at a big outdoor arena on a Saturday night. Poor choice IMO. Not everyone was tripping or stoned out of their minds. Some of us wanted to hear a little more rock 'n Roll and less acoustic hippy shit.

Sho' 'Nuff Said.

Dan Saw them once in 2001. Bored the hell out of me. Couldn't even do any better than a lackluster Oasis set.

Throwaway Saturday. Festival Pier in Philly....I'll be there, and it's gonna rock! Even if I don't get CYHMK (encore a few shows ago) or Let It Bleed (ditto), the show will be great.

Maxlugar Allow me to sum up my feelings after I saw them last week, in as few words as possible:

Drive By Truckers: Great.
Robert Randolph: SUCKS with a Capital S.U.C.and K.
Black Crowes: Pretty good guitar team. Sucky band as a whole.

You're welcome.

Taptrick
Is this the dude with The Family Band. If so, they should do some stuff with the Crows on stage.

28th July 2006 08:01 AM
Maxlugar Yeah, The Family Band. No doubt mom and dad have been unfailthful with other races though...

They suck! I even have Live at Wetland's so it's not like I didn't know what I was getting into. All they did was just find a groove and playing out for 15 minute clips.

28th July 2006 05:31 PM
crb69 Randolph wasn't that bad but after a while it all sounded the same...
28th July 2006 05:42 PM
Saint Sway I cant stand Robert Randolph. He's skilled. He just doesnt know what to do with his talent. He just grooves the same shit over and over till every song sounds the same.

Truckers are a great band. They should be the #2 slot. Randolph shouldnt even be on the tour. They should of went with their original choice of Trey. No the promoters.

Looking forward to the Philly show. Fun spot on the water. Should make for a fun time. Heading up now.
28th July 2006 06:17 PM
crb69 Hey, have a great time and please post to let us know if we can keep the faith in the Crowes

just kidding...they are a great band either way...
28th July 2006 06:25 PM
Left Shoe Shuffle Guess I missed out on those $9.33 WMMR tickets.
TicketMaster only has $45 right now.

Would've been fun to catch DBT on the cheap before heading over to the ballgame.
WTF, might give it a shot anyway...

Seriously? Check out "Tonight's the Night."
29th July 2006 08:09 AM
crb69 I only really like the rust never sleeps tune by Neil. But truly I never gave him a chance cause I was never really into him. Just my taste in tunes that's all. I just think the Crowes should have done more of their own music that night. If I wanted to see a cover band I would have went to a bar.
30th July 2006 12:26 AM
Steel Wheels This was the worst show by the Crowes I've seen. Sloppy, drugged out, too slow, a poorly paced setlist, and too many boring spots.

$9.33 wasted.

30th July 2006 06:50 AM
crb69 not another one? which show are you referring too? phili?
30th July 2006 09:04 AM
Steel Wheels Philly. Setlist sucked, Chris did nothing but shriek, too many frat assholes in the crowd, Marc Ford flubbed too many lines, ponderous drum solo that teased with John Bonham rolls and never delivered, too hot, etc.

It will be my last Crowes show for some time. It may have only been 9 dollars to get in, but it was a waste of my money. At least when I drop BIG MONEY for the Stones I know I'm getting the Greatest - a well rehearsed band who can put a great set list together and I'll be surrounded by others in my tax bracket who share my feelings.
