Topic: Help Selecting MP3 Player? Return to archive
July 28th, 2005 08:39 AM
gimmekeef I'm looking to but a high end 20-40 gig mp3 player. My question is I use Itunes as well as other non Apple download services. In addition I have tons of boots I want on this unit.Is there a unit that will work with all formats?....ie Ipod works with boots?..or Zen works with boots and Itunes?....Appreciate any help or advice...Thanks

scratched I remember doing a bit of research into this a few months ago for the same reason (boots etc). Didn't actually buy one in the end but was convinced that the Creative Zen Touch 20/40GB was the best for me. It seemed to have more features than the iPod, better quality audio (by all accounts), was cheaper than the iPod, has longer battery life than the iPod and has a good user interface. It can also record using a built in microphone, which is useful for making your own boots! Supposedly it supports MP3, WAV, WMA and WMA with DRM formats (whatever that is!) while the iPod supports MP3, AAC and Apple Lossless formats. Another good brand out there is iRiver, which apparently is the best sounding player yet, but has a crappy user interface. I'm gonna go for the Zen when I can afford it.

gimmekeef Thanks scratched!...Do you or anyone else know if Itunes can be loaded directly or off cdr to the Zen?....Cause thats the player I'm leaning toward.....

scratched Not sure about its direct compatibility with iTunes but I don't see why you won't be able to upload iTunes derived files from your hard-drive or a CD-R onto the Zen. Don't take that as gospel though, I'm no expert!

gimmekeef Thanks hotlicks..but can I load Itunes and boots on that player?
July 28th, 2005 02:56 PM
hotlicks YES !! IT'S THE DOGS BOLLOCKS PLUS U GET A FM RADIO AND YOU CAN RECORD DIRECT FROM YOUR CD PLAYER. I'VE HAD MINE A COUPLE OF YEARS AND ITS BEEN ABUSED BADLY BUT STILL IT WORKS!!! MAKE SURE YOU BUY THE 40GB. I BOUGHT THE IPOD SHUFFLE RECENTLY---A GREAT WEE PLAYER IF YOU ARE INTO RUNNING--VERY LIGHT BUT NOT IN THE SAME CLASS AS THE IRIVER------TRUST ME ON THIS-----YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED !

scratched I remember reading about the iRiver and realising that you can't make playlists on it - you have to make playlists in WinAmp and export it to the player. Is this true hotlicks? This was my main drawback with this player and would prefer it to the Zen if you could make playlists 'on the fly'.

hotlicks Not true ! you can make your playlists on your pc and trasfer them to your iriver mp3 player. My son has the ipod 20gb and he even finds my iriver easier to use---it's cheaper, better sound and has fm radio and a voice recorder---you can spill beer on it----drop the fucker from a great height-----BUY IT OK!!!!
