Topic: What's better Rough Justice or Oh,No Not You Again? Return to archive Page: 1 2 3
July 22nd, 2005 07:31 PM
Poison Dart Let's just pretend we never heard Streets of Love.

But we did hear two great new rockers Oh, No Not You Again and Rough Justice.

Which one do you prefer?

I love both of them but I think I like Oh,No Not You Again a little better.

If the Stones didn't put Streets of Love out as the first single I would have had a great day knowing the best Stones record since Tattoo You was only weeks away.

Instead I spent the day thinking they are going to kill the record.

MICK IF YOU CAN HERE US PUSH THE ROCKERS!!!!

Soldatti I didn't hear the studio version of ONNYA still and it seems that is a bit different of the PC version.
July 22nd, 2005 07:37 PM
Bloozehound at this point, RJ by a landslide

RJ is everything I was expecting ONNYA to be and then some

suppovely ONNYA was a work in progress and they reworked it a bit in the studio

that's rough justice for ya

haHa

i missed that the first time, funny

Gazza The lyrics of ONNYA were awful, but it was a decent riff.

That "yellow/jello" couplet was one of the most cringeworthy lyrics I've ever heard by anyone.

I'll defer proper judgement on it however until I hear the released version. I just hope theyve worked on some of the lyrics as the song has potential.

I love Rough Justice, so I would imagine if youre comparing the two, the choice is clear cut.

July 22nd, 2005 08:12 PM
Saint Sway they havent put out too many rockers with bitchin slide work since Exile... so its a treat to hear Rough Justice. Both are good old classic Stones romps. But with that nasty slide work I gotta give RJ the nod.

trying to think of other songs in the Woody era with heavy slide riffs.... YGMR, Black Limo.... I'm drawing blanks....
July 22nd, 2005 08:28 PM
beer Rough Justice. I've listened to it easily 10 times today and I usually never do that with a new song. Get's better with each listen, too. It fuckin rocks!

Jumping Jack RJ

100 listens and it is still great! Love Ronnie's slide.
July 22nd, 2005 10:12 PM
T&A don't like either very much. ONNYA maybe a bit better - at least there's a real riff there. RJ just sits there and doesn't GO anywhere. very dissapointed.
July 22nd, 2005 10:13 PM
T&A by the by - Woody's not playing a slide on BL (not the studio version anyway). It Must Be Hell has a decent slide solo on it by the woodman....
July 22nd, 2005 10:13 PM
Bloozehound just listened to RJ again

pretty amazing rock song for a bunch 60 yr olds to comjure up, great energy

everytime I hear it I think about the video, this song will have a killer video to go with it
July 22nd, 2005 10:36 PM
Bloozehound man T&A I don't know whats not to like about RJustice if your into stones rockers, it jumps straight out of the speakers into your face like a great stones rocker should

sure the lyrics take a backseat, but they work, its really just a simple rock song, it makes you wanna do everything that a good simple rock song should do, like dance or drive too fast

RJ sounds great, and i expect ONNYA to have a similarly rocking feel. However - ONNYA does have "licks" which i think are pretty sharp (from hearing the presser version) whereas RJ is more of a groove tune, kinda like a real quick Casino Boogie. hate to liken this song to exile, but damn if there aren't some comparisons.

i have to work another 3 hours, but when i'm done, the neighbors are gonna be hearing some Rough Justice... more than once... and loud as fuck.

Don't know what you folks are hearing that I'm not. But RJ is a throwaway, IMO. Had my wife check out both songs - and she concurred that both stink - she had me turn them both off halfway through (she LOVES the Stones, btw). No way any of us will be listening to this in 5 years. It has no legs whatsoever. By-the-numbers rocker...any garage band could have come up with it in 5 minutes. All I keep hearing from you folks is that it "rocks." yeah. all rock'n'roll "rocks." I'm not disappointed, per se, as I suspected this kind of been-there-done-that tune would be the basis for the album. I think the Stones have had "their say" for sometime now.

That is sad. Just knowing you feel that way made me start to come down. BUT!!! I disagree, personally I feel this song. And I hope you're wrong about the song be thrown away after 5 years. I feel something there, maybe it's just me. The Stones have hurdles to jump no one else does b/c they're The Stones. If this song was by some new band called Screamin In Your Face from Detroit, it would a leaving people speecheless.
Stones fans are both easily swept up and hard to get moving. Contradictions abound. That's why i love them and us so much!

Not completely sure why someone who loves the Stones would be turning off a new 3 minute song halfway through. Especially when the Stones haven't released anything of note in 8 years if you discount the throw aways on Forty Licks. In my book that's called not giving the song a chance with a made up preconceived notion that you wouldn't like the song from the very beginning. Wonder where she's getting that from???

I've listened to a lot of music and there is a ton of music out there that I didn't particularly care for when I first heard it. Over time, as the music grew on me, some of it has become part of my most treasured listening experiences.
July 23rd, 2005 12:53 AM
beer She's so cold, Its only R and R, If you can't rock me, Starfucker, Any chuck Berry cover, etc, etc, are all "By the numbers rockers".

I don't understand how any Stones fan could hate RJ. It easily kicks the shit out of anything off of Bridges or Steel wheels.

Of course it's not on par with their best, but I think it is a big step in the right direction.

ONNYA takes it. But still Rough Justice is a good track.

Here is what Rough Justice is:

-"Lies" meets "All Down The Line"-

Honky Tonk Man Oh No, Not You Again gets my vote.

Also, I'd like to add that I totoally understand T&A's view on Rough Justice. It's an enjoyable rocker, but it is the Stones by numbers.

maumau "If this song was by some new band called Screamin In Your Face from Detroit, it would a leaving people speecheless.

i do agree with that

about the topic
i wait till i listen to the record version of ONNYA

i think ONNYA is a little bit more structured and a little less groovy

Compared to rockers on SW, VL, BTB i think they both are better of anything in there

FTS, that is the only track that i think can compete, has this strange mix with too sharp and loud drums that i don't particularly like. I do prefer this kind of muffled sound of RJ

maybe i take too tight in this team

i don't agree with those who compare RJ to TGMR. it has a completely different flavour. Just the slide as a connection but that's it. I think YGMR is flat and it is not even "straight in the face" but "pretends" to be. RJ is garagey, period. What they failed with Stealing my heart they got with this one.
July 23rd, 2005 06:54 AM
Honky Tonk Man I haven't heard the studio cut of Oh Not You Again, but I think that neither this song or Rough Justice are as good as the Stones last couple of rockers, Flip The Swith and Too Tight. I describe them as the last rockers as I don't beleive anything rocked about Don't Stop or Stealing My Heart.
July 23rd, 2005 08:05 AM
JaggerLips 18 songs on the new album there is hope yet.
Guys give it a chance will you, screw the analysis just enjoy the Stones and their new music.
Time makes a classic!
Rough Justice and On No Not You Again could be great classics in 10 years time you'll see!

Am I the only sensible and reasoned person here???

I agree. I listened to 'Bridges' a couple of nights ago and really got into Flip The Swith and Too Tight. I have never considered Don't Stop as a rocker, for some reason always thought of it as more of a mid-paced ballad.

corgi37 I think RJ is A-1. It's da bomb, Niggaz.

Trouble is, i have to disagree with who ever said the video would be awesome.

Nahhhhhhh. Not the Stones. The vid will be cheesy shit, ala, "Dont Stop".

I just hope it doesnt feature the Stones in slow motion. Any one notice that? Love is strong, out of tears, and all the clips from b2b had the geezers in slow motion.

Very annoying.

And, the posing! Who, creeped me out.

A "Start me up" kinda performance clip would be cool. Back to basics. Just the band, rocking away in front of a black curtain.

Gotta include Darryl though, even if he doesnt play on the track.
July 23rd, 2005 09:51 AM
gimmekeef I can keep the tune for ONNYA in my head but not RJ.Yes its a nice uptempo piece but just doesnt do it for me.And believe me I always find some way to love a Stones track. And SOL is horrid just a rehash of Already Over Me.....

That's a good idea - the sort of effect that "Start Me Up" video (like the song) has: pure, naked Stones, no tricks.

(You know, because of that song, promoted nicely by the video based just the charisma of the guys, I get interested in this band - so I have some nostalgic sentiments involved here. And if that worked once for me, why wouldn't it work for someone else now )

corgi37 The 1st time Ronnie pops up in Start me up is a classic.

As is:

Jagger's neck veins almost bursting.
Bill's look at Charlie, Charlie's grin and Bill's nodding of his head with his eyes closed.
Keith hurting his finger.
Jagger humping in his "tracky dacks", and its obvious he aint wearing underwear.

Just all round, a classic clip.
