I first commented about this in casual conversation with Toronto Tom a few weeks back about the up-coming show in Toronto.
What I had said, and I'd like to share, here, is wouldn't it be great to see Prodigal Son in Toronto!? Not just because it's a great song and the last time (I believe) it's been played live was at the C.N.I.B. benefit in April, 1979 in Oshawa, ON - about 25 kilometres east of Toronto. But because I had a flash of Toronto, metaphorically being represented as the Prodigal Son.
For those that aren't familiar with the parable of the Prodigal Son, it's from the Bible's book of Luke, chapter 15. Essentially, is about a son that left home in a rather, "greedy" state from that which his father granted him. As time passed, everything he had vanished and as a famine swept the land, this resulted in him having to eat pig's feed as no man gave him anything he begged for. Near death, he crawled home to beg his father to make him a servant. When the father saw him, he took him in and cast a large celebration marking his life and safe return. Summed up, by the father from verse 24:
"For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry."
Now, in this, I see SARS-beaten Toronto, being the son and this show representing the return home celebration to get "him" back on his feet. Similar, to the economic boost it will provide.
Just Mick and Keith on stools...it's all I see!
Thoughts?
