Isnt that what originally made the Stones?

Buttom line, we only had to pay them about 100k and we mnad money off them...they are a nothing of a band whose legacy will MTV videos, while the geezers will be remembered as the greatest rock band ever.

I heard they got paid a million. Also, you know little of what you speak. Metallica had a legacy long before they even made their first video. They were a true grass roots band who built their popularity through word of mouth, tape traders, and securing opening slots on high profile tours (Ozzy, Monsters Of Rock).

They had a million selling album and were on a mostly sold out arena tour without the benefit of airplay before they even made their first video in early 1989. It was the video that pushed them into a top tier act but they were doing quite well for themselves before they even made that move.

You are wise beyond your years!

jb Metallica -They suck!!!! Stones own them and always will. They are a meaningless band with no legacy to stand on. (Sandman-LMFAO!!!)

Gimme Shelter I did get a really cool shirt at those shows of both bands from a guy in the parking lot for $10.00.

Yet the Stones needed their help to sell a few million bucks worth of tickets

They have a definite legacy that anyone but your typical Streisand fan wouldn't recognize.

Not a fan of Metallica. . .I don't own a single album of theirs. I was pointing out that Dan knew a lot more about them then your 30 seconds of US magazine knowledge that you have about them.

jb Metallica=no legacy. The fact the Stones needed them reflects more on the venue, than their choice. N. California ain't a Stones town and never will be,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,"enter night"....LMGDFAO!!!!!

GimmeExile While Metallica had videos on MTV, they were hardly typical of the glossy garbage that dominates the network. Metallica's video for "One" was the most haunting, creative and intense video at the time...Their video for "Turn the Page" is a brilliant short film starring former '80s porn star Ginger Lynn.

Check them out:

I think that we can agree to disagree on Metallica's legacy..LMAO........they are not a band that I often think of when listing the greats...but hey, if you dig 'em, good for you!!!

You're right nobody came to Altamont, Bill Graham Presents didn't run the 1981 tour. . .I guess N. Cali has been schooled by you!!

1981 was a long time ago..............but hey, if you dig it, more power to you. I think Metallica is a step above Quiet Riot....but certainly not close to the Stones.

Actually haven't been much of a fan in the last 15 years but there is no denying their impact on metal and music as a whole. Their original base was built without the benefit of MTV, radio airplay and creative hype but solely on the merits of the music. Their first 4 albums are masterpieces and just about perfect in every way with great songwriting and performing.

Gimme Shelter I don't know, I have always liked Metallica. I've seen them seven times and they always put on a high energy and enthusastic show. They have already stoodd the test of time, their first album came out in '84.

hey, they are huge sellers and very popular among the young people...just not my thing..Look, I don't like LZ or PF either and most consider them "legends"....I am very shallow and narrow in my musical preferences. (hate Jeff Beck as well)

Some Kind of Monster completely eliminated any legacy they had in my eyes. Total Humiliation. Napster revealed them for who they really are. Mick/Michael Cohl would never attack Napster like that.

Sadly, there are only a few areas of the US that are "stones areas. (See: can support multiple shows at top dollar, ie Boston, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and that's about it. Philly and San Fran tried last year and humiliated the Stones and its small group of fans).

As far as the word legacy goes, I am a Legacy member of the Rs.com fan club and will gladly pony up the annual fee, we owe them at least that!

Saint Sway Metallica whined to Napster over illegal downloads. Meanwhile Apple has created a legal download site (itunes) that is the antithesis of napster and the hypocrites in Metallica refuse to take part in.

total hypocrites! Which is it? You support legal downloads or you don't. Chose a side! Typical rebels without a clue.

Which is strange, they were pro taping and filming right up into the mid 90's.

Saint Sway the real strange thing is that they fought Napster to the point of taking them to court and then Apple comes along and creates this legal download site that is a win/win for Apple & the artists and Metallica decides to turn their nose up to them and not allow their songs on itunes.

after the Napster battle it just makes no sense to anyone outside their retarded little bubble

Once again, say it outloud, where do the Stones choose to start their tour?

MASSACHUSETTS

If Gayle & Laura have this story, it is indeed gospel.
They are the best at sourcing news.

Wicked Pissa, the gig is a mere ten miles from my house!
JB, you can land on Bob Kraft's helipad!

ya need it as the frickkin' two lanes in and out along with the lot setup leave driving no fun.

but i will be there and since it's that time of year and we will have already won our opener against the steelers (putting big ben out for the count) i will be wearing my dolphin paraphenalia... yes look for me the lone dolfan in a seas of patsies!
