Dang, what more can be said? One of the best country/folk/Americana songwriters alive today, and an excellent performer too. And with the guitar virtuosity of Andy Hardin to spur on, accent and punctuate, Tom Russell can’t go wrong. Some bands or performers start a long, downhill decline after their first two or three albums, but Tom Russell is at the top of his game, continues to perfect his craft and give us more delightful albums each year plus support them with wonderful touring performances.
Tom managed to keep the stories fresh Friday July 8th in St. Louis without repeating any that he had told when he was here on March 7th of this year although he played many of the same songs.
Local music barometer Beetle Bob showed up after the Willie Nelson – Bob Dylan show was over, indicating that the Tom Russell and Andrew Hardin gig was the second best entertainment going on in the St. Louis metropolitan area that night. Usually Bob is at Tom’s St. Louis gigs for the entire night (Have you ever seen that guy pay a cover charge?).
