Can't You Hear Me Knockin's actually a cover. As for the Exile stuff, it was very much Keith waking them up, yelling "Oi! Got musical idea!", muttering it and playing, smacked outta his mind, and letting Mick finish it.
Which is why Exile's their best album. They complement each other. It's when they fall in and out of balance that their albums are at their best. Exile in 72, with Keith on the decline, and Some Girls in 78 with Keith on the rise. |

Can't You Hear me Knocking is a cover?? I've not heard that before..from whence does it come then?
Also, Keef wrote Waitin' On A Friend |

Nasty Habits |
Can't You Hear Me Knockin' is not a cover.
Are you thinking of the Louis Jordan/Little Richard number
"You Keep a Knockin' (But You Can't Come In)"? Different songs entirely. Louis completely forgets to mention cocaine eyes OR speedfreak jive.

Dear god... I've been misreading "Sticky Fingers"'s case for years! I thought it read that "Can't You Hear Me Knockin" was a cover, not "You Gotta Move".
May the Rock Pantheon forgive me for insulting the Stones thusly.
-tSYX --- I see your future, Xyzzy, and it needs glasses... |

Not so easy. Think of the songs Mick wrote basically on his own: "Sympathy," "Brown Sugar," "Sway," "Moonlight Mile," "Starfucker," "Winter," much of Some Girls ("Miss You," "Whip," "Respectable," the title track, "Lies),
"Undercover of the Night. My friends, that is greatness. Then think of all the great chorus anthems he's responsible for: "Honky Tonk Women," "JJF," "It's Only Rock and Roll," "Start Me Up"...
Sir Mick is indispensable. |
