Michael Putland - Rocks Off
22 July - 6 August
Yoshiko Matsumoto Gallery
Weteringschans 37, Amsterdam
Vernissage 29 July, 4-7 PM

Yoshiko Matsumoto Gallery is pleased to open its venue for the exhibition Rocks Off with photography by Michael Putland (UK) which will be on view from 22 July until 6 August. Michael Putland has been the official Stones tour photographer during various tours in the seventies and eighties. His photography has also been captured in the beautiful book Pleased to Meet You from Genesis Publications. This is the first time Putland's photographs will be exhibited in The Netherlands.

When Michael Putland was asked in 1972 to be the Stones official tour photographer he happily accepted. He worked with the Stones until 1986, capturing the shoot for the One Hit video. Most recently one of the photos he made during the shoot of the Respectable video has been used for a Stones compilation cd.

Putland's photos capture the very essence of the excitement and fascination generated by the band. "These images bring back memories of exciting times and great music from a band I first saw in 1964”, Putland says.

His physical closeness to the Stones - he was often only feet away from them on stage- has resulted in a wealth of memorable images. His photographs document in breathtaking detail the Seventies, which many consider to be the most interesting decade in the band's history, and beyond- resulting in a photographic history second to none.

The exhibition coincides with the FLF Bigger Bash in Paradiso on 30 July and the concert of the Stones in Amsterdam ArenA, 31 July, giving the many Stones fans and collectors from around the globe the opportunity to see the exhibition.

Each purchaser of a photo during this exhibition will be eligible for a free copy of the book Pleased to Meet You in a prize draw. (Courtesy of Genesis Publications/PTMY)
