Ten Thousand Motels James Brown to perform, meet fans in Italy

Stars and Stripes
European edition, Saturday, July 15, 2006

VICENZA, Italy — James Brown, the “Godfather of Soul,” will meet with fans Wednesday at Caserma Ederle before performing a concert that night at a downtown plaza.

He’s set to sign autographs at the post theater from 4-5 p.m. He’ll later perform at the Piazza die Signori in downtown Vicenza. Some tickets for the 9:30 p.m. concert are being sold through the United Service Organizations office on base. A night later, he’s set to perform in Udine, an hour’s drive east of Aviano Air Base.

Brown, also known as the “hardest working man in show business,” has just started a brief European tour. After a few more dates in Italy, he heads to shows in Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden and Denmark before heading back for shows in the States.

The 73-year-old had his first hit on Billboard Magazine’s charts in 1956 and has sung more than 800 different songs since, according to the Web site www.godfatherofsoul.com. He was a founding member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a lifetime Grammy award in 1992.

Bitch Here's my review of James Brown in Atlantic City, May 28th 2006.

Introduced as THE GODFATHER OF SOUL in AC's House of Blues. The 10 piece band rocked wearing red tuxedo jackets, 4 female back up vocalists in matching black shimmy dresses, a younger male lead singer, and a stunning redhead lead vocalist who sounded great and looked gorgeous in her black sequined gown, 2 young dancers in skimpy outfits, and James Brown himself, all decked out in a black sparkly suit.

The man still moves and grooves (he was born in 1933 - I looked up his bio) so he is amazing! James can still shout and holler and rock with soul, the band was very tight and so cool. He stole the show from everyone on the crowded stage with him, a very dynamic presence.

I was happy to see a living legend and a professional well played show so it was really great night. The club was standing room only, people were bumping and grinding, dancing, drinking and partying! A fun concert - if anyone gets the chance to catch James, go for it!

Some highlights of the evening:

Cold Sweat
Hold On I'm Coming
I Like the Way You Move
NIGHT TIME IS THE RIGHT TIME - (STONES play this on ABB)
Get On Up
I Feel Good
Sex Machine

Show started around 9:20 and ended around 10:45. not too long, but for a 73 year old guy, James was impressive. He can still dance and prance and twirl around the stage, totally enjoying himself on the keyboards, was jamming with the band, and the dancers and singers. His whole act is top notch.
