Rock away the rolls!
By Nicole O'Neil, This is London

Thrash the flab away with London's newest and loudest fitness fad - air guitar aerobics!

Free mid-week classes are being held in the city for those who want to lose weight and get fit to the sounds of AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Metallica.

What better way to let off steam - and shed pounds - after work than pretending to be Justin Hawkins from The Darkness?

Air guitar aerobics take place at Gymbox in High Holborn every Thursday night. Each class involves thrashing the air in a Peter Townshend style combined with more traditional exercises.

American dance tutor Laila Hardman, who came up with the idea, said: "This is a really cool workout that's a lot of fun and it works all the major muscle groups paying particular attention to the legs and the upper body. Because of the high tempo of the music it also provides a full-on cardio vascular work out."
