Isn't the Royal Ascot a horse racing event??? One where everyone dresses in formal attire. I remember Princess Diana and Fergie got into trouble for goofing off at one such event.

Ascot races are one of the highlights of the "social season" in England. Formal dress for men and women are a condition of entry, I think! Women seem to try to overdo each other with bigger, brighter or more eccentric hats. I see Jo's is very tasteful!

Nothing more, your descrption is perfect and as LadyJane said it is a horse race, but LOL if you see any report of the event in both, newpapers and on the net, they always have only photos of the attendants and none of the horses or the jockeys
