Yeah you can see the sniffles and jawrunner pretty clearly. It was probably the first time I was officially "allowed" to stay up to watch SNL. |

The 81 tour gets no respect on this board! A great tour behind a great album. And Mick was never better than he was in 81. A pouting, strutting, and charismatic superstar who had the crowd in the palm of his hand. That's when Mick was at the height of his powers. |

Did they do another song that night?? |

That's some mean bass playing right there. |

I'm inclined to agree. I've really enjoyed attending the tours since but from what I've seen of the 81 tour it had a raw feel to it that I think got lost. Mick was outstanding in 81 I think.
* This is coming from a guy who never saw that tour in person, mind you. I've only seen and heard the bootleg shows and feel I really missed out on seeing them live when it was still a bit like reckless rock and roll. IMO, of course. |

I think they did Beast of Burden also. If I'm not mistaken, the Stones did three songs, but I can't remember the third. |

You said it, buddy. It was a VERY good year.
By the way, the third song they did was "Respectable." |

I absolutely LOVE the 1981 Tour . Whenever I hear anything from Hampton '81 I get that " The Party has just started Feeling " . Indeed , I hear barkers and see colored balloons falling down all around me .
Jazzy ! |

IMHO.
1981.
Two very different, yet great albums (ER and TY) in their own way, being toured at the same time and with a vengence.
Watching Keith during the Hampton show... slowly taking off his guitar to smack bobo in the head, and then slip his Tele back on and continue playing.
Like he was even in tune?
Doesn't matter.
Don't F*ck with the band!
The shows were polished yet raw. Gritty and sloppy, with moments of genius.
It wasn't '72 or '69, but it was pretty darn close.
Amen |

If the Stones were that bad/cheesy on national tv today they would be crucified in the media.

Hell yeah. One of my all time favorite stones moments is when they tear into under my thumb and the crowd goes crazy. Its live Rock and Roll at its best. |

Who gives a rats fucking ass what the media thinks?
For 2-3 days after 9/11 the media (NBC - I can't say about the others) were reporting the death toll at the WTC could reach 20K. Totally irresponsible. I'm still pissed about that. |

That was funny. Mick, trying to be up with the times as always, kinda sang like his throat was blown out like the punk rockers of the day.

In the video it does look and sound like MICK is coked up and sloppy, lol. I love the way he flickers his tongue SHIDOOBEE and rips his shirt into tatters. MICK doesn't just sing a song he performs it.

The 1981 Tour rocked! The STONES were at a peak and a high point, and the audience was really high too, lol. One of the best concerts ever was 1981 in Philadelphia. Incredibly hot! |
