Interesting analysis....I also think the Stones judged more harshly b/c they don't kow-tow to the English press.
NO journalist that I've ever read takes Bon Jovi seriously as a musical act. They're lightweights to everyone but their delusional, fuckwitted fanbase.
The press' attitude in the UK to the Stones has improved dramatically in recent years (read the 'Uncut' quote in my footer message as an example). Some of the articles even in the tabloid press after Keith's brush with mortality a few months were downright touching in their unbridled affection for him.
Considering the lack of time they spend touring here, dearth of new and vital music in decades and the fact that to a generation of fans theyre a bunch of old guys that are financially out of reach, I think they do pretty well. You know the old saying about bad publicity being better than no publicity. When you think of it logically, its quite remarkable that anyone under 25 or 30 knows who they are.

Agree...I guess , sadly, only when they are dead, will the public attitide towards them change. Look at lightweights like LZ, Beatles, Doors, Bee-Gees, Pink-Floyd, Hendrix, Garcia, Ramones, Pistols, Nirvanna, etc all loved way beyond what they actually contributed.
