CS Stones Roll Into Toronto Friday To Begin Tour Rehearsals

(6/28/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- The Rolling Stones and their touring party are slated to begin rolling into Toronto on Friday (June 28) to begin preparations for their upcoming North American tour. However, they shouldn't expect as easy a time as they've had in the past. A new Immigration And Refugee Protection Act has just taken effect in Canada and could mean lengthy delays for aliens arriving at the city's Pearson Airport.

The new law requires each of the 175 members of the entourage to complete individual immigration applications at the airport upon their arrival. Previously, touring parties such as this could file a single application and send it to airport officers prior to the group's arrival.

Richard Kurland, an immigration attorney in Montreal, told The Toronto Sun that the Stones could well "end up sitting at the airport for an entire day. People can expect pandemonium at the Canadian borders on Friday."

Complicating matters could be the previous drug convictions of Stones singer Mick Jagger and singer-guitarist Keith Richards. Richards, in fact, was arrested for drug possession in Toronto in 1977.

The Stones will rehearse in Toronto throughout July and August, with the tour starting September 3 in Boston, Massachusetts.
