There will be many threads this week arguing whether or not the stones should have been here....This looks like the last tune, i dont think we will see Sir Mick after all!

The Stones don't always fit the bill. Because they are the bill!
July 2nd, 2005 07:04 PM
Gazza Cheers Mick

Thanks for nothin'!

Another big anti-climax
July 2nd, 2005 07:04 PM
Madafaka Ok my friends, thank you all for sharing this cyber rock and roll afternoon with me.
See you next time!
Bye!
July 2nd, 2005 07:05 PM
Angiegirl I dunno. I think they would have drowned compared to The Who alone... (not even talking about some other greats). Bash me all you want, but the Stones as a band aren't a quality trademark anymore.

Still, Mick and Keith with Salt Of The Earth would have been great, just like for NY 9/11...

I think they belonged there today. Somewhere on one of these stages. Moscow for example

Mr Jimmy I, for one, am very happy that the Stones did not show up. I've come to hate the stupid post-concert-comparisons of the bands that are written by morons and digested by the short-attention-span masses.

We all know who's the best. NOBODY rolls like the Rolling Stones!
July 2nd, 2005 07:07 PM
Moonisup on the spot! Just imagine the thin sound, and no chuck
it could have been VERY good, of Very bad, just like Vredenburg the first numbers and the arena a few days later. I think mick doesn't wanna take that risk
July 2nd, 2005 07:08 PM
pdog I'm off to work.
It was fun.
I really hope that the cause isn't forgotten. My bleeding heart would love to see those 8 assholes in Edinburgh do something to make a difference.
If we can, we should, right!

Have a safe and happy 4th America.
To the rest of the world may all your dreams come true!

I'm not really an internet asshole, I just play one on your computer!
Peace!

regardless of what anything thinks about whether the Stones or Mick SHOULD have played or not, the fact that the BBC's radio broadcast website CONFIRMED this afternoon that he would be performing shows that he AGREED to play.

Unless he was ill or there was some transportation problem which prevented him from getting to Hyde Park, to pull out after confirming you'd play is shameful
July 2nd, 2005 07:19 PM
M.O.W.A.T. Watching Stevie Wonder perform in Philadelphia...

Looks like he borrowed Mick's '69 Hyde Park dress!

Sorry for the double post, am now on my 4th glass of 2002 Fess Parker Pinot Noir (a truly delicious juice IMO)

I hope you all feel the same way if Mick pulls some flimsy excuse to pull out of a show you've all paid through the nose to see! LOL
July 2nd, 2005 07:29 PM
Moonisup the greedy bastards, no one paid 400 for tix, so they don't show up!
July 2nd, 2005 07:29 PM
Angiegirl Lol, down boy
July 2nd, 2005 07:42 PM
texile did mick actually pull out? or was the media hypeing an "appearance"...

quackenbush I live in Philly and I left town to go to the beach. A million
people on the Parkway, are you fucking kidding me? That is more than half of Philly's population in that relatively tiny ass area. Luckily there were no major incidents.

But part of me is proud that it happened in Philadelphia though. I mean they could have chosen New York.
July 2nd, 2005 07:48 PM
Angiegirl Philly, nostalgia, Live Aid '85. NY makes no sense in that context.

Mick's appearance was confirmed on the radio and online by the BBC this afternoon, so I guess he pulled out. I cant imagine they would have put that information out had he not agreed to play. It was merely speculation until that point, although he wasnt even rumoured to appear until yesterday or so.

Keith obviously was so disgusted at Mick playing Live Aid that he joined Dylan onstage 40 minutes later! According to an interview I read with Ronnie Wood in a Dylan book, Woody knew nothing about the gig (!) until Dylan mentioned it a couple of days in advance - then he phoned Keith and asked him to join them, and Keith jumped at it.
July 2nd, 2005 07:52 PM
Angiegirl Dutch news confirmed it too (Macca with GM and Jagger), around 10PM GMT...

Oh hell, at least I got to see Brad Pitt. He was the sole reason I watched today anyway.

quackenbush I'm listening to the news and it sounds like price gouging at the concession stands. Eight dollars for french fries, six dollars for water and six dollars for hot dogs. They ain't sending that money to Africa.
July 2nd, 2005 07:57 PM
Gazza Unlike the concert merchandise, the food sellers wouldnt be under the control of the Live 8 people, though, quackenbush - thats just street vendors who got a licence to sell their nosh at the gig. And in London, greedy bastards ripping people off are in plentiful supply.

July 2nd, 2005 08:00 PM
texile water i can understnad, but why are french fries more than hot dogs? no beef?
keith, ronnie and bob - god, what a travesty...
they were so bad it was fucking funny;
i just remember lionel richie hustling them off the stage.....('lionel, stop them!')
three fucking clowns with fucked up hair.....
hilarious and sad at the same time.
July 2nd, 2005 08:02 PM
Gazza Fucking hell. Just realised. 326 posts on the same thread in 23 hours. Must be a record!
July 2nd, 2005 08:07 PM
quackenbush Oh I know that the concessions aren't under the control of Live Eight. But I pity those people who just spent all of their money on soggy, rinky dink hot dogs and a sip of water. They are gonna need to save that money, because if these Live Eight people get everything on their wish list, all of our taxes are gonna go up. Let Bob Geldof and Will Smith send their money over there if they're so concerned about Africa.

LOL...the Stones taught those lads how to play...their personalities alone blow any of those other bands away. Thank god i had a great day boating and did not miss anything. From the highlights I just saw on VH1, fucking dreadful Macca/U2/Sting/Bon Jovi.....I have gained a new founf respect for Mick and Co...thank fucking god they opted out!!!
