Bob Tamp The stones are our favorite band, but I want some new stuff for the European shows. With the exception of Tumbling Dice, I get a little bored with the War Horses. No doubt, they are all great classic songs, but the real fans need to hear some new shit. Get the new album out and be proud of it. Play 6 or 7 songs off of it like the Some Girls and Tattoo You tours.
Don't turn into the WHO only relying on shit recorded 30 years ago. As long as a handful of the classics are still played people will still love it.

With the argument that 40 licks is still selling well. I counter all the better to put new material out NOW. Casual fans will always buy a greatest hits album with War Horses on them. And once they are hooked, they would probably pick up the new release as well. Grab it when you're hot boys.

Boomy To answer your question: No, there is no info on anything. It's been reported that they will work on stuff during the European tour, and that's it.

riffhard64 but what i really wanna know....Bob....how is Cody and have you seen the PINK again????...do tell

T&A surely even the Stones themselves realize that there's no market for them to make a big commerical splash anymore. The only remote possibility is if they were somehow to crack in with a top-5 single or something like that, which seems highly improbable in this pop market. So, it's really not (or shouldn't be) a question of best timing for maximizing profitability. It's more a question of when they are ready from an "artistic" standpoint to put some music out to their hardcore fanbase. Which, by the by, is the way it should be. And, if I'm reading the signals right, sounds to me like we're looking at a late fall release.

I agree,
A new Stones album is a must here.....
I mean I am as happy as could be being I got
to see the Stones again. It made my year!
But now we definately want an album. This is\
the longest in Stones history that we are without
a new studio album....and lets be real here....
there not the youngest Rock n Roll band in the
world any more so to say time is of the Essence is
an understatement. And they are playing so damn great
this time around I also agree with getting it
while it is hot! I hope they are writing songs and
recording them here and there in different cities
along this route. Now is the time to really put their heart into this album and make another classic for us.

TheSavageYoungXyzzy This album will feature a number of exciting turns for the Stones. For one thing, expect to hear much more from the sidemen, like Bernard Fowler, Blondie Chaplain and most importantly Chuck Leavell, who's going to take on the "Ian Stuart With A Synthesizer" role.

Get ready for a lot of slick Fowler production of the kind that ruined Slide On This. But don't worry, to satisfy the purists, Keith and Ronnie will sing backing vocals on the instrumental track. Mick, stung from Goddess In The Doorway, is eager to prove its worth by using outtakes.

Oh, and expect to hear a cover of "Postively 4th Street" just to annoy the fuck out of marko.

And yes folks, it will close with a Keith ballad.

A joke?

Perhaps.

My current line on this album is "we'll see", I guess. When I hear an audience recording I'm psyched. When I hear a soundboard I feel ill. Too much goddamn Chuck and Bernard and co., not enough fucking Stones.

And that version of "Heartbreaker" they did in Munich made dogs cry.

-tSYX --- They were alllll about you...

egon absolutely, new stuff!!!

more like "don't stop" & "keys to your love".

pffffffff

Soul Survivor I have a feeling the new album will be realeased sometime in '04. I also have a feeling it will be one of the Stones best albums. Why? Well alot of reasons. But, Mick failed with 'Goddess'. He now knows his success is with the Stones. So Mick will be in top form. Keith as well. Ronnie is sober, so we can expect some good guitar, and Charlie is ALWAYS solid. I feel the 4 tracks on Forty Licks were kind of rushed, and the most commercial of the bunch. It was a greatest hits album, and they threw some poppy commecrial songs on there to boost up the record sales. With a new album though....

The Stones know fans want a new one. And I just have a feeling they will rock out, and make one of their best....

T&A SS:

I tend to agree with you and am cautiously optimistic that the Stones won't aim for a commercial success and will dig down deep into their roots for a real artistic effort. And, Savage, I hear ya loud and clear but do not think the Stones will fall back on their sidemen in the studio as they do for the stage act - no need to (although, I too question their need to on-stage - but that's for a different purpose altogether - it's to try to approximate the studio sound on stage).

Boomy A new Rolling Stones album will probably go straight to #1 on the charts for about 1 week, unless Eminem or Avril Lavinge release an album on the same week.

But I'm sure the Stones don't see the album as being the money maker. It's the tours. But I think a new album will give them all the reason to tour again because they could possibly get some new anthems into the set list.

06-27-03 09:27 PM
Soldatti The chances to get a #1 album is very small. They always released album in high season as Forty Licks and all since Stripped. If they want a #1 the album must be released in February/June, the part of the year with less sales. In this part of the year with 150,000 copies easily top the chart. But in November/December?. Very hard...
06-27-03 10:05 PM
nankerphelge Yep the chances of a #1 are so small.

But, in my heart I know that if they really wanted to, they could do it.

It would be damn near impossible.
They are not the force they once were.
The industry is different.

But, in my heart I know that if they really wanted to, they could do it.

It would take gargantuan efforts -- the band would have to work together -- it could not be a Mick and Keith quilt of leftovers -- it would have to have that signature sound and get into everyone's head.

In my heart I know that if they really wanted to, they could do it.

They've played so well this tour -- I hope they put it all together on a release. I'd love to watch everyone eat some crow!

Soul Survivor I mean you look at "Gimme Shelter" and then look at "Anybody Seen My Baby". Mick and Keith were the biggest badasses in rock then (and still today in my book), and now Mick wants to write poppy tunes to satisfy the teens. I say Fuck that. Fuck what the teens want. Write the rock/blues tunes that your band originally did....and you know what??? they kicked ass.

Nanky, your right. Mick and Keith could begin to write a fresh album and craft each song into memorable rock masterpieces if their hearts desired and Im hoping that they will finally see the light on the new album after all these years

Not that the newer albums are bad, but they just arent the Rolling Stones that cared about Rock and Roll, not commercialism

But with the way the process is going, it seems like that this album is gonna be exactly that: Leftovers from Keith and Mick.

The thing is, what teens was he writing for? Last time I checked, this band is from the 60's it mostly appeals to individuals in their 30's, 40's, and 50's. It's like he was trying to appeal to the wrong people.

Us younger fans (I'm 20 years old)...well, there isn't much of us and I highly doubt a lot of teenagers were buying Bridges to Babylon when it came out.

I think Mick writes mostly what he wants, not what others want. And I think most of it is pretty good with the Stones....but I'd wish they'd have more of a "kick ass" attitude about it more than a laid back one.

Fiji Joe What? You guys don't have the new album? It's pretty good except for this "Back to Zero" track
06-29-03 06:12 AM
oldkr dont expect anything til christmas 04
06-29-03 07:41 PM
Boomy Wait. You are saying a new album won't be out until December 2004? That's a long time.

So is anything going to come after this tour sometime in the fall or winter?

On another note, I wonder if the Stones will be doodling around in the studio this coming week. After tonights show, they go to Paris and don't play until Saturday.
06-30-03 12:16 PM
Happy Motherfucker!! There will be a new release in late Spring 04 with a US Summer tour to follow. I'm taking bets on this on.
06-30-03 12:21 PM
McQueen It's comin' - gonna rock your sweet ass.

Give it a few more months pard. (Ok-maybe a few more months after that.)
06-30-03 03:22 PM
Bob Tamp 2004 spring is bullshit. Another live album is even more bullshit. The act of a live album following every tour now is too cliche. Yes, I want a live dvd but screw a live album. The live album won't sell anyway. Get the new studio album done now.

Oh Fiji!

Dirty Work is all one really needs from the last 20 years anyway.

I have it on good authority that the band has recorded every show and will let us, via a website, choose to download 25 songs and make our own personal Live Album for $7.99!

Get ready!

I agree. However, I do not want this tour to go without any sort of release as far as live material goes...simply because of the quality of sound this tour and how great they are playing. Still, first thing is first, I think we
should have a New Rolling Stones Album in the fall if it were up to me....(of course which it's not) I would have Keith and Mick writing and the Stones recording all along this Europeon Tour. All summer long and then the tracks could be mixed and mastered at one location with Mick and Keith both there. The tracks selected could range from the Paris sessions last year all through this tour recordings with the best choices for an Album out of the bunch. In a Perfect world this is how it would be.Then in October/November we would have a new studio album.
I realize the Stones are busy and they need time off when not onstage during the tour but come on we need a new album...four songs in 6 years isn't enough....and as we discussed in a previous posts 1. Get it while it's hot.
The energy should flow over onto the album.
2. Time is of the essence here.
Just my opinion. I have no idea when the next album will come out and everything discussed in my thread is wishful thinking.

We'll you know Mr. McQueen it sure would make my fall. I need a fresh new album from the boys to get me Rolling. I have heard they are planning on doing an album while on the Europeon tour from the iorr site.
Sooner or later somethins gotta give is the way I see it. More importantly the Stones know their fan base well and they know we need a new studio effort before anything.
*Just one more thought, The Stones sound so energy full and charged up this tour. I also like the fact that the guitars are way up in the mix. Hope it carries over onto the new album.
Any thoughts on your part?

T&A the Stones don't have any shows this week - and they are in France where they like to do studio work - seems like a good bet they are making some hay with the new album.
07-02-03 12:28 PM
Glimmer Boomy,

Tattoo You was a bunch of left overs and it was pretty good.
07-02-03 05:08 PM
Boomy I never said it was a bad thing!

But it has to be Rolling STones leftovers, not Mick Jagger or Keith Richards leftovers!
