Rock band's song urges smokers to defy the smoking ban

Rockers release song about sparking up after the smoking ban. Legendary 60s rockers The Pretty Things are sending out a rallying cry to smokers opposed to the ban by releasing a single called All Light Up. The band, one of the pioneers of rock ‘n’ roll and a major influence on the Rolling Stones, are putting out the song to coincide with the start of the ban in England.
The breezy sing-a-long anthem urges smokers everywhere to defy the ban and spark up. Lead singer Phil May said: “There has been a creeping interference in our private lives over the last 10 years by the government and I’m upset that people seem to have accepted this latest piece of legislation.”
May said that pubs should be allowed to permit smoking as long as there was ventilation. But he added: “This song’s not just about smoking, it’s about people being allowed to live their life how they want to.”
The song is already available to download at www.myspace.com/alllightup and will be available to download from iTunes this week.

A major influence on the Rolling Stones!!! you got to be kidding! whoever wrote that doesn't know a fucking thing, the Pretty Things came after the Stones, Dick Taylor played with Mick & Keith before The Stones were formed, & left to go to Art School, it's the other way around, The Pretty Things were influenced By the Stones! |

If you asked me I'd say religion, while some of my friends call the ultra liberals a form of new religion.... In that context... I say it is about the same, it just comes down to people trying to force others to live acoording to their beliefs or values.
The good thing is, us we's get to argue about it, like it matters. At least we remain friends, or at least I try to... Which is mighty big of me, since I know you guys are wrong soooo much! |

Just step outside to light up or better yet, stop or seek treatment. I certainly don't want to be affected by anyone else's filthy disgusting dangerous unhealthy habits. The no smoking rule was the best thing to happen to clubs here. |

Definitely friendship counts for more than politics. A lesson I wish liberals (not you or anyone else on this board; I'm talking real life here!) would learn! |

Some people there take things a bit too seriously. I PM'd my real advice to the OP a few minutes after he made the post. |

Holy shit! ARe you telling me that the writer of this little bullshit blurb said that the Pretty Things influenced the Stones?!?!?!!!!!
Oh now that is rich! I did not even bother to read the article because I saw it for what it was. Namely a cheap attempt to regain some long ago lost glory. What a feckin putz!

That thread is screaming for all my worst insticts. Funny thing is it's only when they get to my post that they think they are suddenly being trolled.
And as far as being annoying, there are even better opportunities than are available on the Stones boards today.

Holland's getting the ban next year and I think it's a good thing. There's been arguing about that shit for years, so might as well do it completely this time. And they're gonna do it. |

As a pub-going smoker, I am naturally not looking forward to this Sunday’s ban. However, I look at this way. Is the ban going to affect me so much that I'll stop going to the pub? NO. I'll just have to get on with it. It'll be hard, but after a while I predict stepping outside for your ciggy will become a perfectly natural experience for the English smoker.
One thing that is a definite is this. I plan to continue enjoying smoking.

Fight For Your Right (To Party)
Kick it!
You wake up late for school man you don't wanna go
You ask you mom, "Please?" but she still says, "No!"
You missed two classes and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk
You gotta fight for your right to party
You pops caught you smoking and he said, "No way!"
That hypocrite smokes two packs a day
Man, living at home is such a drag
Now your mom threw away your best porno mag
Busted!
(repeat chorus)
Don't step out of this house if that's the clothes you're gonna wear
I'll kick you out of my home if you don't cut that hair
Your mom busted in and said, "What's that noise?"
Aw, mom you're just jealous it's the Beastie Boys! |

quote: A wealth of overlooked yet frightening literature concerning the Nazi crusade against smoking provides a clear parallel to contemporary developments and an alarming warning that state restriction of personal habits is the pre-cursor to dictatorship.
