UGot2Rollme I like this guy's music...

from jam.canoe.ca

Former Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft has been arrested and fined for being drunk at a youth event in Wiltshire, England, BBC News reports.

The Melksham police gave the 34-year-old singer on-the-spot notice for being drunk and disorderly at Wiltshire youth club where an event featuring children under the age of 12 was being held.

The British singer, a father of two, gained commercial success with The Verve in the 90s, but due to creative struggles the group disbanded in 1999.

His latest solo album, "Keys to the World," was released in February.

Voodoo Scrounge He did a great album a few years back called 'Alone With Everybody'

It has some great tunes on it. You should especially check out 'A song for the lovers'

The verve were very good too. I believe their guitarist now tours with Blur/Damon Albarn/Gorillaz

egon kids make you drink.
it's the only way to cope.

Those little brats should have been glad that a famous rock star made time to come and see them.
Cos children's fingerpaintings ain't that interesting.

Honky Tonk Man This story was in The Sun a few days ago. He reportedly entered the youth club and proclaimed that from now on, he wanted to "work with children" and do good things. Apparently he was good-natured throughout and the whole thing was quite amusing. I don't think its anything to get alarmed about. He was arrested, fined 80 quid or something daft like that and then let off.

Voodoo Scrounge is spot on. The Verve was an excellent band and in my opinion, no home should be without a copy of Urban Hymns and preferably, A Northern Soul too.

Voodoo Scrounge The Verve and Richard Ashcroft are responsible for some of the most underated music writting of all time.

Songs Like 'Sonnet' and 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' just dont get the credit they deserve.

Their classic hit 'The Drugs Dont Work' is widely believed to be about heroin addiction. But this is not the case. Ashcroft wrote the song about his mother who was dying of cancer at the time. The song is about the inefficiency of the drugs doctors were prescribing.

Richard Ashcroft arrested
(Wednesday June 21, 2006 10:31 AM)

Richard Ashcroft was arrested this week after apparently bursting into a youth club and drunkenly demanding he be allowed to work with the children.

The former Verve star is reported to have been "close to tears" and in a dishevelled state when he entered The Bridge club in Chippenham, Wiltshire on Monday evening.

Ashcroft is reported to have offered his services to the children, before swearing and refusing to leave, prompting staff to call the police.

He was taken into custody by local officers and given an £80 fixed penalty fine for disorderly behaviour, reports The Sun.

An 'eyewitness' told the UK tabloid: "He was very strung out and close to tears at one point. He kept saying he wanted to work with kids, that he wanted to do 'good things'.

"He wasn't aggressive, in fact he was quite charming and friendly. He kept hugging some staff and kids.

"But when the police arrived he was almost begging to be arrested. They told him to go quietly but he wouldn't."

The Bridge Club is understood to be close to the home of the family of Ashcroft's wife Kate Radley.

Lord Homosex Love his solo stuff and the Verve too. The last solo album is excellent.

DJAsh "The Drugs Don't Work" was written as a tribute to Ashcroft's stepfather, not mother.

His solo work has been disappointing I think.

The Verve were a good band..the guitar work of Nick McCabe being an important factor not often mentioned.

The song you're referring to is Bittersweet Symphony. The Stones themselves played no part whatsoever in the royalties debate. It was all Abcko and Alan Klein. All the Verve did was sample the Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra version of The Last Time. The sample aside, Bittersweet Symphony is a wonderful song and a true testament to how good a songwriter Ashcroft is. If you were to hear any live rendition of the song minus the orchestra, you'll realise the song is all his own work. The whole thing was blown up to be more than it was.

I suppose they could do a remake, but I think Jagger would butcher it. It's on of those songs that just shouldn’t be tampered with.

No. Try going back to 1995!
