Topic: what country songs have the Stones played?? Return to archive
June 18th, 2005 07:02 PM
ßloody red ®ooster I was wondering just how many country songs the Stones have done (written and covered) through the years
the ones i can think of right now are:

Country Honk
Far Away Eyes
Dead Flowers

but theres just have to be more.
is there some sort of a list of them , somewhere?
wouldnt it be great to make a compilation of em all!?

Soul Survivor Country Honk
High and Dry
The Worst
Let It Bleed
Dead Flowers
Blinded By Love
Dear Doctor
Far Away Eyes
Factory Girl

I consider all of those to be country

Gazza I'd also class Sweet Virginia, Torn & Frayed and Always Suffering as country, by anyone's standards

Sweethearts Together and Blinded by Love as well, probably

I'm Movin' On is a Hank Snow composition, so thats quite obviously a country song, even if the Stones' version isnt exactly straight outta the Grand Ole Opry!

Soul Survivor Maybe early ones like You Can't Catch Me could be considered country too
June 18th, 2005 10:25 PM
Gazza ..written by Chuck Berry and with a trademark Chuck riff?
June 18th, 2005 10:30 PM
Soul Survivor Ugh, yeah I don't think that's the one I was thinking of.

It's an early one, I just can't remember exactly which one I'm thinking of. I think it's off of Out Of Our Heads. I'll have to go back and give it a listen.

beer Movin on?
June 19th, 2005 10:46 PM
Cant Catch Me Wild Horses, for sure, I don't think anybody said that one.

And, Can't Catch Me sure ain't country . . . believe me, because I wasn't country long before being not country was cool.

texile there's a boot of some girls sessions/outtakes where they do my favorite hank sr. song - you win again.
June 20th, 2005 02:39 AM
padre -Do You Think I Still Care (or something like that), an 70's outtake. A nice country tune.
-Indian Girl
-High and Dry
June 20th, 2005 02:44 AM

Gazza well, if youre counting unreleased songs then their cover of "we had it all" is an obvious choice...probably 'lets go steady' too...

I think its stretching it a bit to call "Indian Girl" country, personally...

June 24th, 2005 07:21 AM
Stray Cat UK I'd like to see Keith performing more country in his spot this tour. How about ;

We had it all - great on the Willie show
Hurt - nine inch nails / Johnny Cash - Wow !
The Worst - a highlight on Voodoo tour
YGTS - COULD HE PLAY SLIDE ANYMORE ?

Maybe a Gram number ?

"Indian Girl" is hybrid country; a mixture of country and hispanic, spanish flamingo

"Ida Red" by Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys
June 25th, 2005 02:41 PM
FPM C10 The absolute highlight of the New Barbarians show I saw in Pittsburgh in 1979 was when Keith sat down at the pianner and sang "Apartment Number Nine" by Tammy Wynette. If I'd had a beer I woulda cried in it.

THAT would be cool for a Keith solo song this tour.
