TheSavageYoungXyzzy Hallo all... I'm vacationing, and have been Miss-ing You. A big sloppy e-kiss is in order for all y'all - well, all the loverly ladies and even the un-loverly ladies and, hell, I don't discriminate, all y'all, g'day.

Having just picked up one, I've gotta ask: What's the most underrated Stones Album?

I just bought "It's Only Rock 'N Roll", and I'm loving it. It sounds like everyone is playing well - except Taylor, but I think that may be more Keith's fault than his. I love "If You Can't Rock Me" and the "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" cover. Even "It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I like It)" fits in well, once you get past the beginning bit. Surprisingly, I don't like "Time Waits For No One". I think it's rather lame and if Mick'n'Keith wanted to steal it for their own, fine - I can see now why Taylor's solo album set himself up for a fall. "Short And Curlies" - man, that's just a fun song to scream along to in the car.

tSYX --- Before you know it, he'll listen to "Dirty Work".

Alright... I'll give it another listen... but uggh! Forgive me, but upon first and second listenings, I just couldn't stand it... then again, I liked "Fingerprint File", so make of that what you will.

tSYX --- It better wait for me, damnit.

Boomhauer What about Dance Little Sister? I love that song! Actually, I love the album, too.

I think that Undercover is underrated, too. I mean, damn, you ever listened to Tie YOU UP? That is a good song.

Honky Tonk Man Its a great record, but i think it sounds too over produced. Nothing REALLY grabs me. Its a good album though.

No, my favourite Stones albums at the moment are "Some Girls", "Tattoo You" and "Undercover"

Id rather listen to those records then "Sticky" and "Exile"

RONNIE RULES!!!

winter Gonna take a beating on this one, but Emotional Rescue:

Good Tunes are:

Dance Pt. 1 - Funky, but I like it
Down in the Hole
She's So Cold
Let me go
Where the Boys Go - pseudo-Punk, but I like it

and, last but not least:

ALL ABOUT YOU - my favorite Keith ballad

I also agree that undercover has some good tunes on it, hate the title track though and I think the album generally falls into the category of "over produced"

Please don't play undercover or rock in hard place on this tour, please

reid I know that some of the songs are bad, but what are everyone's thoughts on Black and Blue? I think that some of the songs are pretty good (NOT hot stuff).

TheSavageYoungXyzzy reid-

I bought Black & Blue at the insistance of a teacher of mine, who loves the Stones and will swear by Let It Bleed, so I figure he's got sense. I've gotta say - I hated that album with such a vehement passion that it now resides in a pile next to my computer that I never look in - forever. Hot Stuff I have played for my friends, saying "This is the Rolling Stones in 1975 - reduced to a porn band." Memory Motel is passable, are Hey Negrita and Melody, but I hate Fool To Cry, Hot Stuff, and pretty much the rest of the album. I think it's a very shoddily done album, and really only a venue for the Stones to find a new guitarist, which really was no contest: Our mate Ronnie.

I'll give it a whirl when I get home, 'cuz I've just discovered I actually like Aftermath and find Steel Wheels passable, but I'm not holdin' my breath.

*edit*:
Oh, and Elated Mofo!!,

Yeah, I gave "Time Waits" another spin. Sorry. Can't bring myself to like it. Shame, I was really looking forward to it, everyone speaks so highly of it.

-tSYX --- Hawwwwwt Stuff!

BILL PERKS TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE IS GREAT,THAT RECORD IS VASTLY UNDERRATED.DIRTY WORK IS THE MOST UNDERRATED TO ME "HAD IT WITH YOU","HOLD BACK" AND "SLEEP" ARE THE BEST TRACKS .WORST RECORD TO ME IS BETWEEN THE BUTTONS.I HEARD THAT AT ROSELAND THEY ARE PLAYING THE FULL UNADULTERRATED DIRTY WORK.

Stonesthrow There is still some sanity in the world. As proof I offer the following:

At the local record/CD store, all of the Stones' ABKCO stuff (new, not used) was list priced at $16.99 per CD. Meanwhile, Black And Blue was listed at $11.98. And it wasn't Just My Imagination running away with me. Black And Blue makes Dirty Work look like Exile.

06-23-02 02:35 AM
stonedinaustralia well my Savage friend and stonesthrow i disagree with you re black and blue.while I agree fool to cry is a bit twee in the lyric department i like b&b a lot... i think hot stuff is excellent & while it is often derided as the stones attempting "disco" to me it goes a bit deeper than that and that rythym has clear overtones of a james brown style workout (take me to the bridge)...

the solos of wayne perkins in hot stuff & harvey mandel on HOF are great... memory motel is beyond description (again some nice work from harvey m and keith's vocals are sublime)

dirty work on the other hand isn't, imho, one of their better releases - harlem shuffle, sleep tonight, too rude, one hit, dirty work and stu's outro (ok so that's about half the album)are good (some more good than others) but the other tunes are, again imho, some of the ropiest they've done... had it with you, winning ugly, fight all smack of off-hand efforts that didn't have a lot of time or thought put in to them... as someone commented here before (i'm sorry but i've forgotten who) had it with you sounds like the band was told what key the tune was in and the general tempo of the song and then put in separate booths where they couldn't hear one another in order to record - honestly its a complete shambles

Staffan I find GHS and Between the buttons very underrated...
They are almost as good as the mighty four albums.
06-23-02 04:33 AM
F505 Between the buttons is very much underrated. That album contains al least one of the best Stones ballads ever: back street girl...
06-23-02 05:21 AM
Staffan Oh yes, that song is one of the most beautiful songs they have ever written... Jagger sings soooo good!
06-23-02 05:32 AM
ElMocambo The most underrated are from my point IORR and Black and Blue. My favourites on these two are Luxury and Hand of Fate.

Most overrated are for me Steel Wheels and Bridges. I dislike f.e. very much Rock and a Hard Place.
06-23-02 07:22 AM
Honky Tonk Man Forget all that. THE MOST UNDERRATED ALBUM has to be "Englands Newest Hitmakers" I mean, the record is great from start to finish. UK version is better because it starts with "Routee 66" rather then the crappy "Not Fade Away" I dont dig the early Stones a great deal at the momrnt, but no matter what phase im going through, this cd always gets played.

On June 16, 2001 the hit counter of the WET page was inserted here, it had 174,489 hits. Now the hit counter is for both the page and the board. The hit counter of the ITW board had 1,127,645 hits when it was closed and the Coolboard didn't have hit counter but was on line only two months and a half.
