Not that it matters anymore, but I'm still searching for an answer to the eternal question "Why won't the Stones play Greece?" especially now that they seem to be surrounding the whole damn area and leaving us out.
So I contacted Neo Revma, the promoter that did the arrangements for the 1998 gig here. They said they were really keen on closing a deal with them last year - then the fall happened. Also, that after last year's hassle with the tickets' return, no promoter was willing to risk it this year (stupid amateurs!) and that there was no interest on the Stones side too!!!
Questions:
1) Who is responsible for the return of the tickets? The locals or the Stones side?
2) Why in the world wouldn't the Stones want to play here? I mean, especially since they're practically in the neighborhood this summer.
There's a very, very strong tendency here by all promoters to blame it on the Stones. Very stupid and childish, not professional at all if you ask me, kind of "oh, bad, bad Stones, they don't want to play here, so we don't want to bring them here either". As if the Stones are some kind of new band that will beg for a gig in Athens and our promoters just sit here and wait for that. Arrrgh..
And all of that, because of one little slip from a tree... *sigh*
-UPDATE: Jeez. Got another e-mail from Neo Revma and the promoters here believe Keith's accident was a fake one, an excuse for bad sales Hence, no Greek promoter is interested in booking a deal with them after this "behavior".
Argh! I can't stand the typically Greek lack of professionalism and the easy way of thinking we're the "smartest" ones and we know what's going on behind the scenes...

Maybe the thread should be renamed "Rolling Stones 1962 - 2007. The RIP European Tour" to avoid any further confusion |

Fotini, I'm amazed that you still live in Greece. A country that treats Mick & Keith like that is not a country worth living in. Please consider moving!!!!! |

Rolling Stones to perform in Poland
WARSAW, Poland, May. 11 (UPI) -- Polish organizers said the Rolling Stones added an open-air concert in Warsaw on July 25 to their European tour, Polish Radio reported Friday. The Warsaw concert is scheduled to last 150 minutes and the organizers said they expect to sell 60,000 tickets, ranging from $67.50 to $360 for the VIP sector. The Rolling Stones held two concerts in Poland in 1967 and 1998, the report said

Rolling Stones add Poland to Europe tour
May 14, 2007
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Rolling Stones will play Poland for the first time in nine years during their upcoming European tour, the band confirmed on Monday.
The July 25 date at Warsaw's Sluzewiec Hippodrome was posted at the band's web site (http://www.rollingstones.com), and takes place one day before singer Mick Jagger turns 64.
It substitutes for what would have been the band's first show in Ukraine. No new date has been slotted for the country. A spokesman for the band did not respond to requests for information on the switch.
The Rolling Stones have played in Poland on two other occasions: in 1967 at Warsaw's Palace of Culture, when riot police fired tear-gas at thousands of fans who tried to storm the building; and in 1998 in Chorzow, a more genteel event attended by the wife of the Polish president.
The band had scheduled a show in Warsaw last year, but it was one of many that were pulled after guitarist Keith Richards hit his head while on vacation in Fiji.
The Rolling Stones begin their European tour on June 5 in Belgium.

LOL...cant imagine too many fans in Poland paying $360. Thats probably a couple of weeks salary for many people.
Two and a half hour show? I hope they signed a contract stating that! |

So Poland is final and officially confirmed….
Our Ukrainian tour promoters prove another time that they are miserable amateurs. It seems that they are only able to bring to Kiev lip singing second hand Russian ‘pop stats’, unknown euro metal bands and advertise local ‘singing lingerie’.
We stick with these ‘stars’ for good. Sad, sad, sad…

very disappointed for you and all the Stones' fans I know in the Ukraine. A big letdown.
Even more insulting is that rs.com didnt even have the courtesy to confirm that the Kyiv show was cancelled. They just removed it from the list of shows, and replaced it with Warsaw as if it had been there all the time.
Any news in the Ukraine for the "official" reason for this show not taking place?

Nope. No “official” information from Ukrainian side yet. I think they will keep silence too. Pretend that the concert was not planned. Or they will say something about technical reasons...
My guess the cancellation was caused by financial reasons. A lot of money from local business is currently involved in politics and upcoming elections.

And they won't even give an explanation?
Come on, give them a hard time! Start the phone calls! They HAVE to give you guys a reason for this. Damn amateurs |

Thank you, FotiniD for the support.
At this moment no one claim responsibility for the screw up. We were not involved – this is the answer. It seems that it would be easier to get reply from official rs.com than from our guys.

It's the usual drill, they're going to blame it on the Stones eventually, just like they did here. The Stones won't even know or won't bother answering and it'll stay like that. Damn! Really hope you can catch another show av! |

This is a show with a difference, with all of the tickets being bought by MIGROS (I believe this is some kind of supermarket chain) who are going to distribute the tickets amongst those of their customers who own a Cumulus card (presumably its some kind of loyalty card) on some kind of lottery system
