time is on my side This is the news I printed before but somehow it's not showing so I'll give it another attempt. Can someone delete the other thread????

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (AP) -- A former handyman has won more than $400,000 in a lawsuit over a penile implant that gave him a 10-year erection.

Charles "Chick" Lennon, 68, received the steel and plastic implant in 1996, about two years before Viagra went on the market. The Dura-II is designed to allow impotent men to position the penis upward for sex, then lower it.

But Lennon could not position his penis downward. He said he could no longer hug people, ride a bike, swim or wear bathing trunks because of the pain and embarrassment. He has become a recluse and is uncomfortable being around his grandchildren, his lawyer said.

In 2004, a jury awarded him $750,000. A judge called that excessive and reduced it to $400,000. On Friday, the Rhode Island Supreme Court affirmed that award in a ruling that turned on a procedural matter.

"I don't know any man who for any amount of money would want to trade and take my client's life," said Jules D'Alessandro, Lennon's attorney. "He's not a whole person."

A lawyer representing both Dura-II manufacturer Dacomed Corp. and the company's insurer declined to comment. Dacomed maintained that nothing was wrong with the implant.

The implant consists of a series of plastic plates strung together with steel surgical wire, almost like a roll of wrapped coins. Springs press against the plates, creating enough surface tension to simulate an erection, D'Alessandro said.

Lennon cannot get the implant removed because of health problems, including open-heart surgery, his lawyer said. Impotence drugs could not help Lennon even if he were able to have the device taken out, because tissue had be to removed for it to be implanted.

Dacomed was later acquired by a California company whose sales dropped when Viagra was introduced on the market. The company filed for bankruptcy the following year.

Man who fought Playmate for inheritance dies

Friday, June 23, 2006; Posted: 9:58 p.m. EDT (01:58 GMT)

Anna Nicole Smith created a stir when the Supreme Court heard her case in February.

DALLAS, Texas (AP) -- E. Pierce Marshall, who feuded for years with former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith over his father's oil fortune, has died, his spokesman said Friday. He was 67.

Marshall died Tuesday evening in the Dallas area from a brief but aggressive infection, the family said in a written statement released through spokesman David Margulies. He declined to provide additional details.

Smith married Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II in 1994, when she was 26 and he was 89. He died the following year.

Since then, E. Pierce Marshall had been locked in a legal battle over her entitlement to the estate.

The U.S. Supreme Court last month revived former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith's pursuit of her late husband's oil fortune, ruling last month that the one-time stripper deserves another day in court. (Full story)

The case has had twists and turns. Smith won a $474 million judgment, which was cut to about $89 million and eventually reduced to zero.

"Mr. Marshall leaves behind a legacy of being, first and foremost, a remarkable husband, father and grandfather, a successful business visionary and a man of unrivaled perseverance and principle," the Margulies statement said.

Marshall was best known for his public fight with Smith, whose real name is Vickie Lynn.

"It's a horrible situation, so condolences to the family, but we have no comment on it at this time," Philip Boesch, Smith's attorney, said Friday night.

Marshall's attorney, Rusty Hardin, did not immediately return a phone call from The Associated Press.

Accusations on both sides
Last month's ruling reinstated Smith's claim, but there was no guarantee she would collect any money.

"Although he lavished gifts and significant sums of money on Vickie during their courtship and marriage, J. Howard did not include anything for Vickie in his will," Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote.

She said there were accusations that Marshall "engaged in forgery, fraud, and overreaching to gain control of his father's assets" and, on the other side, that Smith had defamed her former stepson.

"I will continue to fight to clear my name in California federal court. That is a promise that Vickie and her lawyers can take to the bank," Marshall said in a statement after the decision.

Marshall, who lived in Dallas, served on the board of Koch Industries Inc., a Wichita, Kansas-based commodities conglomerate that operates refineries and pipelines, trades commodities and manufactures pulp, paper and fibers.

"His leadership and loyalty have been instrumental in the success and growth of our company," said Chairman and CEO Charles G. Koch.

Margulies said he had no information on services.

AUSTRALIA ADVANCES to Round of 16 with draw

Nuremberg, Germany (Sports Network) - Harry Kewell scored the equalizer in the 79th minute to help Australia earn a 2-2 draw with Croatia and earn the necessary point en route to advancing to the Round of 16 on the final day of Group F play.

Kewell almost missed the match for insulting a referee, but was cleared only days before by a FIFA disciplinary committee to net his first World Cup goal.

Australia, which finished the group stage with a 1-1-1 record, is heading to the Round of 16 for the first time in its history. Australia will now play Italy, which won Group E, on June 26.

Kewell's decisive tally came from five yards out off of a set play. Marco Bresciano kicked the ball into the penalty area where John Aloisi flicked it to an open Kewell in the goal area. Kewell then buried the ball just inside the far post to highlight the first competitive meeting ever between the two countries.

Croatia finished the match with nine men, one more than its counterpart.

Croatia, which had not found the back of the net all tournament, opened up the scoring right away in the second minute thanks to a goal by Darijo Srna. Mark Viduka fouled Nico Kovac, allowing Srna to capitalize on a free-kick up high from 23 yards out.

Before the intermission, Australia knotted the affair at one via a penalty kick converted by Craig Moore in the 38th minute. The Newcastle defender went to the spot after Stjepan Tomas was whistled for a handball inside the box. Making matters worse, Croatia's Igor Tudor was handed a yellow card for arguing the call.

Moore fired the ball in the left side of the net, marking the eighth goal of the tournament coming from a penalty kick.

Kovac put Croatia back ahead in the 57th minute, taking advantage of a Zeljko Kalac mistake. From 19 yards out, Kovac fired a low shot which hit the hands of goalkeeper Kalac and trickled over the line.

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman and country music star Keith Urban want a "normal wedding" like any other couple, the singer's manager said Saturday.

Kidman, born in Hawaii to Australian parents, and Urban, born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, have been swamped with attention since they jetted into Sydney days ago and confirmed their plans to wed.

LONDON, England (AP) -- A British army regiment's ceremonial pet goat was demoted in disgrace after it marched out of line before a host of international dignitaries during a parade to mark Queen's Elizabeth II's birthday, a military spokesman said Saturday.

The military mascot, a 6-year-old male goat called Billy, was downgraded from the rank of lance corporal to fusilier -- the same status as a private -- after army chiefs ruled his poor display had ruined the ceremony June 16 at a British army base in Episkopi, western Cyprus.

corgi37 So, news from the world, eh? Rhode Island and California being the world?

Australia is in the final 16 in the world cup and our politicians just scored a pay rise, while recently knocking down the benefits of most workers.

But, now is the time to hit on Anna Nicole!!!
