musha ring dumma do damma da
whack for the daddy 'ol
whack for the daddy 'ol

Phil Lynott was black.

MrPleasant Haven't listened to them in dog years, but Vagabonds is truly an outstanding work.
12th June 2006 12:05 PM
sirmoonie So, this kind of bombed.

None of y'ins listen to Thin Lizzy?

Should I delete this thread and prevent further embarrasment?

Throwaway If you don't know much Lizzy, listen to "Cowboy Song" and tell me that second solo doesnt rip...
12th June 2006 05:35 PM
Highwire Rob I had a buddy in college who transferred from the Citadel in South Carolina. He told me some interesting trivia...

The song The Boys Are Back in Town was written about the cadets returning to Charleston, SC. He said that "Dino's" was just an abandoned building downtown circa late 80s.

Down at Dino's bar and grill
The drink will flow and blood will spill

Dan I have Jailbreak on cassette, bought used when I was about 14 or 15. I have always meant to dig a little deeper since I like everything I have heard just never got around to it.

I saw the fake Thin Lizzy open for the almost fake Deep Purple 2 years ago.
12th June 2006 06:29 PM
VoodooChileInWOnderl I saw Gary Moore live at the Palladium in NYC back in 1982 playing with Greg Lake, doing Keith Emerson's keyboard párts but with a guitar!!

He's one of the best guitar players I have seen, I have seen videos and listened him playing blues too, he can play blues, rock and progressive as a real bastard.

BTW; he's (was) a neighbour of Gazza in Belfast
12th June 2006 07:10 PM
Gazza He sure was. Saw him 2 years ago supporting Dylan here as well....he was very good

I was never much of a Thin Lizzy fan, although some of their stuff is pretty good

Lynott, however, was a really top bloke and very fan friendly. I know lots of people who met him before and after shows here down the years and the verdict on him was universal.

When I'm at work, I listen to Big Blue Radio (out of Spokane). Today's set was graced, ironically, with Cowboy Song.

Even though not "the" Thin Lizzy, I saw them last year. Pretty good. I think they opened for Deep Purple, though I won't bet on my memory.

And, yes, it rips...
12th June 2006 11:35 PM
Throwaway nice! And Deep Purple isn't exactly "The" Deep Purple nowadays, but I'm sure the show was entertaining as is. My fav thing about Lizzy, along with Lynott's writing, is the dual guitar sound...least fav? definitely the hair.
14th June 2006 09:17 AM
corgi37 Never dug Lizzy at all. Not one iota.

But, Phil Lynott being a black, Irish, Jew is just so fucking awesome!

Nasty Habits Am I a fan?

You're damn right I am!

Any foo who don't have Live and Dangerous is a straight up sucka!

This one's for you, Moonie:

Ode to a Black Man

If you see Stevie Wonder tell him I hear
If you hear Stevie Wonder tell him I see
I don't want no songs for plants
I want songs for me
I don't want no songs for plants
I want liberty living in the city
If you see the doctor tell him he's king, Dr. Martin Luther
If you see the doctor tell him he's still king, you too Muhammed Ali
But this bad black boy won't be blown away by anything
Yes this bad black boy won't be blown away by anything
There are people in this town
That try to put me down
They say I don't give a damn
But the people in this town
That try to put me down
Are the people in the town
That could never understand a black man
Don't take it no more
Don't take it no more
Don't take it no more
There are people in the town
That try to put me down
They say I don't give a damn, damn
But the people in the town that try to put me down
Are the people in the town that could never understand a black man
Don't take it no more
If you see Robert Johnson, you too Robert Marley, Robert Mugabe
Now tell him I hear
If you see Malcom tell him I'm next, vexed
If you see Jimi, Jimi Hendrix
If you see my brothers tell them it's clear
I've been living on the wrong side
Now I hear
Don't take it no more
I don't take it no more
Mr. Joshua Nkomo
Don't take it no more
Jomo Kenyatta, oh no
Don't take it no more
Haile Selassi, Rastafarian
Don't take it no more
Professor Longhair
Don't take it no more

Phil Lynott

And Johhny the Fox.

All Thin Lizzy except Jailbreak are hit and miss, but in aggregation, as 70s rock band that shined it up nicely. Beat the piss out of junk like Eagles, Bad Company, Foreigner, etc.
14th June 2006 01:26 PM
Dan I will add those to the list. Right now there I have placed moratorium on buying CDs until I am sick of listening to the Peeping Tom CD. Which just might never happen I am afraid.
14th June 2006 08:18 PM
MemoFromTinaTurner Thin Lizzy fucking rocked. Love that band.
