LadyJane Comment for Josh......People from Buffalo will FLOCK to TORONTO......like we do EVERYTIME TO gets a show!!

We haven't had the pleasure of the Stones since B2B.

Gee gang, do you think my e-mails(thanks Toronto Tom for the names and addresses) did some good? I can be very persuasive. Not to mention the fact that I assured Canadian Government officials that I could personally guarantee at least 100 dedicated American fans, with LOTS of American $$ would travel to Toronto!!

I won't believe it, though, until I see the press conference.

Memo to self--Send immediate e-mail to the office requesting last week of July as vacation.

Stones may soon roll into town

By SHAWN McCARTHY AND JAMES ADAMS
Tuesday, June 10, 2003 - Page A19

OTTAWA -- Toronto organizers are set to announce that an all-day megaconcert, headlined by the Rolling Stones, is confirmed for July 30 in Toronto's eastern portlands.

Liberal MP Dennis Mills, who has been working on the concert plan for more than two months with Senator Jerry Grafstein, said the organizers hope to seal the deal by the end of this week.

"Everything is looking positive and we hope to to be in a position to have a press conference next Monday," Mr. Mills said yesterday from his office in Toronto.

He and Mr. Grafstein have been pushing federal Industry Minister Allan Rock to commit about $3-million to the Stones concert, conceived as a way to combat world-wide what they believe has been a misperception of the health risks of SARS on the general population. More than $6-million has been raised in the private sector for the show, Mr. Mills said.

The Toronto Danforth MP said the Stones have confirmed their intention to be part of the SARS benefit. The group will fly into Toronto during a hiatus from their European tour.

The band plays Prague on June 27, then doesn't resume its official European leg until Aug. 8 with an appearance in Hanover. Part of the Toronto deal, according to Mr. Grafstein, involves the band touting the safety of Toronto to concertgoers in Paris, Madrid, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Vienna in the run-up to the July 30 concert.

With the Stones seemingly in the bag, "the total preoccupation for the final week or so has been the Canadian bands," Mr. Mills said.

Part of the delay in signing Canadian acts is that some of them are already set to play Toronto's Air Canada Centre and Skydome on June 21 in yet another SARS-related concert, this one organized through the Ontario government's tourism ministry. More than 70,000 tickets -- a sell-out -- were sold late last month in one single three-hour frenzy for performances by the Tragically Hip, Barenaked Ladies, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan and Diana Krall.

Mr. Mills said the concert will be a drop in the bucket in terms of aid for the hard-pressed tourism sector in the city, despite that the Stones event could draw a crowd estimated at 500,000 to 700,000.

"Our tourism industry has been devastated," Mr. Mills said.

"I'm talking to some privately owned hotels this week and they don't know how they're going to make their next mortgage payments."

SARS paranoid? Not Ozzy!
An unbleeped, unforgettable interview with the prince of TV and rock 'n'roll darkness
By BILL BRIOUX -- Toronto Sun

Bloody Hell! SARS might have scared other stars out of Toronto, but not Ozzy Osbourne.

"We're going to show all these f---ing pussies what a rock 'n' roll band is all about," Osbourne said yesterday over the phone from Ottawa.

He performs here tonight at the Air Canada Centre.

The 54-year-old metal rock icon has heard all about SARS. He has been performing all across Canada before heading to the States later this month.

A few nights ago in Edmonton, he gathered his crew and gave them the option of bailing out of the T.O. gig.

"The heroes of the Ozzy company are the road crew. I said, 'Listen guys, it's your call because you have to be there at five in the morning to load the gear.' "

To a man, they stood by the boss. "They just went, 'What are you talking about? We're your people, we're in.'

"I'd be a liar if I said I'm not afraid of SARS, but what I'm not afraid of is playing to an audience. The show must go on, you know? My feelings are, I could walk out this f---ing hotel room now and get run over by a truck, or get a heart attack."

After all, Osbourne said, "I'm not doing this show in a f---ing hospital emergency room."

Besides, SARS, Mad Cow, Monkeypox ... butch up, Osbourne said in his stuttering, brain-fried Ozzy-speak. It sometimes takes him a while to jump-start his brain, but when he gets in gear he makes a lot of sense.

"My father lived through the Second World War, and every night the Germans were trying to bomb England to bits. I always remember my father -- as a young boy, he said to me one time, in any crisis, people want to be fed and they want to be entertained, and I'm there to entertain."

In fact, Osbourne pledged to give his all tonight to Toronto.

"My endurance record for stage is two hours and 40 minutes, and I'm going to try to beat my endurance record." He'll be joined on stage by his new bass player, former Metallica band member Jason Newstead.

The former Black Sabbath frontman has a soft spot for our town.

"Toronto's a rock 'n' roll city, man," he said. "In actual fact, the last Black Sabbath album, Never Say Die, was half-written in Toronto."

His favourite bar was the old Gasworks on Yonge Street. "I got carried out of that club many a night."

Ozzy's on the current cover of Rolling Stone magazine. How much of an impact has The Osbournes TV show had on his career? He said he never made the cover of Rolling Stone, alone or with Black Sabbath until a year ago. Since then, he's been on three times. "That's the power of TV," he said.

Three years ago he figured he'd do a few Ozzfests and fade into rock 'n' roll history. A recent "rich list" in England ranked him third behind Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones in concert cash, with $66 million US in earnings in 2002.

His empire is driven by The Osbournes, the wacky reality sitcom that transformed the former Prince of Darkness into an eccentric TV dad. "Last year I was in Boston and this very conservative woman comes up to me," he said. "And they all feel they have to say the F-word. So I'm coming out of the hotel and she says, 'Ozzy f---ing Osbourne.' I go, 'Yeah.' She goes, 'What are you doing in Boston?' I said, 'I'm doing a show.' She goes, 'What kind of a show?' I look at her with a frown on my face and say, 'A rock and roll show.' She goes, 'Oh, you do that as well, do you?' "

The Osbournes returned for the second half of its second season last night on MTV Canada. That premiere will repeat tomorrow and Sunday night at 10:30 p.m. on the digital network, with nine more new episodes airing Tuesdays at 10:30. CTV is currently showing the first block of 10 episodes from earlier this season.

CTV runs the show unbleeped, a policy Ozzy doesn't get. But, then again, what does he know? He has never seen the series. "I've maybe watched about two of the rushes," he said. His view is that it's a reality show and he's already lived it. Why re-live it six months down the road?

What he has seen is The Ozporns, an XXX-rated version of his series that he caught on the adult channel in his Ottawa hotel room.

"It's the f---ing funniest thing I ever saw," said Osbourne, who noted that the porn stud who played him had a Cockney accent. "Mind you, he had a bigger dick than me so I turned it off."

Porn spin-offs aside, whether The Osbournes continues past the current season is still up in the air. Ozzy's wife Sharon pried $10 million out of U.S. broadcaster MTV just to shoot this season's 20 episodes.

"They're f---ing tight-fisted bastards," he said. Ratings are down about 50% from their giddy year-ago peak, still high by U.S. cable standards.

Besides, Sharon has moved on to her own "chat" show, as Ozzy calls it, a syndicated talker airing this fall on the new Toronto One station.

"By the way, she's my f---ing hero," said Osbourne, who was devastated last summer when his 50-year-old wife was diagnosed with colon cancer. After intense treatments, doctors recently gave her a clean bill of health. "I call her the unstoppable Sharon, 'cause that chemotherapy is not f---ing nice, man. The treatment is worse than the f---ing illness."

Son Jack is battling his own problems. The 17-year-old music scout still has five weeks of rehab to go for alcohol and substance abuse -- addictions that Ozzy, who is on the wagon, knows only too well.

"Jack's a good kid, you know," he said. "Being famous at a young age ... he's doing great. I've got no complaints."

An older daughter, Aimee, is helping dad on a demo for Ozzy's next pet project: A musical about Russia's mad monk Rasputin.

"My dream is to have a Broadway musical," said Osbourne, who may become the first Great White Way impresario to have ever bitten a head off a bat. He's teaming with Aerosmith songwriters Mark Hudson and Steve Dudas on the project. "The stuff we've written so far is pretty hot."

There are reports that younger daughter Kelly, 18, may join Ozzy when his tour reaches London later this summer, but don't ask Ozzy. "All I know is I'm talking to you on the phone now," he said. "I could be playing with f---ing Lisa Marie Presley, I don't f---ing know."

Osbourne recently left Sony Music after close to two decades. There were rumours the breach came after the family felt Sony mishandled Kelly's debut album, but Ozzy says he just felt it was time for a change, especially after the departure of former Sony Music boss Tommy Motolla.

Osbourne admits he's a pretty liberal dad, and he says kids have to sometimes make their own mistakes. If that means getting burned a few times along the way, that's all part of the deal. For all his rock-lord bluster, it is clear that family is his No. 1 obsession.

"So many guys go like, 'Oh, I'm 49 now. I need the young bimbo from the office to (perform oral sex).' You know what I mean?" he said.

"I could get a different woman every night if I wanted to. I don't even go there. I love my wife more than anything in the world, and I love my family more than anything in the world. We all love each other no matter what."

Ozzy Osbourne: SARS crusader, role model, family man.

Bloody Hell!

nankerphelge Christ -- SARS culdn't even get a foothold in that dude -- he has shit twice as virulent coursing thru his veins!!

But he's right -- on wid the show!!!
06-12-03 12:45 AM
Bluzian Well I just got in from the ColdPlay concert down in Toronto
@ the molson amphitheatre, and like Ozzy, I also do not have
SARS or am afraid of it. Kudos to Ozzy and ColdPlay for both
coming up to T.O. on the same night to keep the economy
going. You know damn well that the next time these artists
who have backed out of commitments (due to SARS??) they're
going to lose alot of dedicated fans. You don't bite the
hand that feeds you (ultimately the paying concert-goer) and
you don't kick a gift-horse in the mouth (us fans!!) I am
quite confident that the Rolling Stones operation will be in
town on Wed. July 30th. Mark my words.

Cheers,
Ian in Guelph!

Come on people!! The Stones leave Europe and play a show in Toronto!! Who could have imagined???

Could there be a more perfect scenario for an RO summit?

Well, some people have. Even though the show will probably happen, right now, that's all it is - probable. It can never hurt to book a room..you can always cancel.

"Portlands" is were the event will occur (via most recent articles on and off-line). I'm not really sure where that is to tell you the truth. I've heard, if I remember correctly, that it's east end. Again, hearsay..I'm not sure.

Personally, I've booked the 30th and morning of the 31st off (tentatively). I'll be driving up to T.O. on the evening of the 29th with me pa (he's only 18 yrs older than me!). We're sleepin' in the van and walking in the morning of the 30th with essentials in pack for the day. I'd like to park about an hour's walk away. Getting out of a parking area with that many cars...I'll be outta alcohol and won't be in the mood.

Tomorrow, Toronto Tom is going to survey the area for public transit, parking, etc. I guess he was a boy scout. I'll relay any info here.

Quite honestly, it's still like a dream to me. Too good to be true, almost. Downtown T.O. is only a 50-minute drive from my place. Being from Canada, I'm familiar and enjoy a lot of Canadian music. Having some of these acts (some are not hard to predict who'll be there) playing a show with the Stones is an added bonus to the dream.

Still, trying to prevent possible disappointment.

polytoxic I went to the Ozzy show last night and what a vibe!
Ozzy broke his onstage endurance record by playing a 2 hour and 45 minute set dedicated to the suffering rock fans of T.O.

"there are a lot of pussies in the entertainment industry, and I'm not one of them" he told the crowd to deafening cheers, before he dedicated "Suicide Solution" to all the "c-nts who cancelled their shows here", which, of course, the crowd ate up.

In fact, here was a Toronto crowd exhibiting some good 'ol USA style patriotism, which is a new development in these parts.

If Ozzy's tribute was any indication, I would imagine the Stones will have a special show together and the vibe will be ELECTRIC.

July 30, folks - a crisp sawbuck gets you in.
Hear all about it Monday.
06-12-03 03:30 PM

06-12-03 04:15 PM
polytoxic Well Jb, the Shidobee group has taken over the downtown HOJO for its cheap rates, but if you'd like a classier stay -The closest nice hotel is -no kidding -
the one and only Westin Harbour Castle - formerly the Harbour Castle Hilton where one Mr.Richards had a very bad wake-up call. It's right on the lake about 1 mile west of the concert site.

The other really nice ones right downtown are the Fairmont Royal York and The King Edward (very posh).
