Melbourne Mulls Naming Street After AC/DC
By The Associated Press

MELBOURNE, Australia - The Australian rock band that belted out "Highway to Hell" could soon stroll down a lane named in their honor.

The Melbourne City Council is considering renaming Corporation Lane, a narrow downtown alley, AC/DC Lane as a tribute to the band.

"They are probably the most successful Australian band ever and they really do have a connection to Melbourne," council city services committee chairwoman Kimberly Kitching said Monday.

One of the band's famous video clips, for the song "Long Way to the Top," was filmed on the back of a truck in a Melbourne street.

She said the council would make a decision on the name change within the next month, but it had already received broad community support.

AC/DC already has a street named after it in Madrid.

corgi37 Well, bugger me if i saw this in any of our newspapers. Sounds a bit odd to me. Corporation Lane has some mighty cool bars and bistros in it. Why Ac/Dc? They are not exactly a fave band of our Chinese mayor, i would assume. I will try to look into this. Also, another hint that this could be crap (not forgetting a movie has just been released called "Thunderstruck" with a Ac/Dc theme to it)is the naming of the Council spokesman. They are nearly always anonymous, except for the dude himself, John So. Man, he can hardly speak Engrish, let alone listen to lock n lorr.

The street acker dacca played down during "Its a long way to the top" was Swanston St, virtually our main st. Well, it was then. Now its full of cheap $2.00 gold shops, "yoof gangs" and sex theatres.

My fave part of town!

it wouldnt be in the city's gay area by any chance? If so, that name might be a bit TOO appropriate
