The palms that have been part of the scenery in Torquay, Devon, since the 1820s are under threat because of concern that their spiky leaves pose a danger to passers-by. Despite there being no records of anyone being maimed or blinded by a palm tree, Torbay Council has opted for less potentially hazardous varieties for a new harbourside development. The “ban” came to light when Torbay Chamber of Commerce asked for more palm trees to be planted.

Gazza cut them down. Torbay is a bit too close to where Charlie lives in Devon, so it may prove too much to resist if Keith ever comes to visit...
