Gimme Shelter CANNES: Stones give 'thumbs up' to Brian Jones pic
One of the claims to fame that the town in which THN is based is that this is the birthplace of ex-Rolling Stone, Brian Jones. In fact, I think they've recently named a street here after him (but don't quote me on that - I might be wrong). Anyway, news reaches us today that long haired producer Stephen Woolley is to bring a new movie to the screen, based on Jones's life.

The film, entitled STONED, is said to have even got the thumbs up from the Stones themselves.

"From what I have heard, they have no problem with the film or what we are about," he said to BBCi in Cannes.

"But I deliberately did not involve them because I did not want it to be a film about the Rolling Stones."

The mystery surrounding Jones's death lives on to this day. The rocker was found dead in his swimming pool at his Sussex home in 1969. Some people say he died from a drink and drugs overdose, others believe his builder Frank Thorogood killed him.

The proposed fil already has a cast. Leo Gregory (HOOLIGANS) will play Jones, and Paddy Consadine (DEAD MAN'S SHOES) plays Thorogood.

STONED is due for a 2006 release.
