Brown Sugar I think Family very bizarre.
And, pardon mon ignorance but...whos EG Jim?

Thanx!
06-07-03 12:54 PM
steel driving hammer One jumps to mind right away but it's not The Stones.

Led Zeppelin's 'Ramble On'!

Can't believe I used to like that song in high school.
06-07-03 12:57 PM
Highwire Rob I'm going with Start Me Up just for the approach of wooing a woman by telling her she brings dead men to climax.

What was Mick thinking?
06-07-03 01:00 PM
steel driving hammer SHIDOOBEE!!
06-07-03 01:02 PM
J.J.Flash Oh Brown, good to see you again man. Again, another fantastic thread you POST here. Thanks! Well, I think the strangest lyrics...well, I vote for Cocksucker Blues.......
Cheers!
06-07-03 01:26 PM
mac_daddy Ramble On is great, but you either dig Tolkein or you don't (the song sort of retells a story in The Hobbit)...

I am going to have to vote for Jumpin' Jack Flash. I never have been able to get a handle on all of the lyrics, and I have NO idea what the tune is about.

steel driving hammer JJF is a guy who has been shunned out and left for dead by society.

But, he soon finds, that it's not all that bad, in fact, it's a gas!
06-07-03 01:31 PM
TheSavageYoungXyzzy "Ramble On"s lyrics suck. It's their lame attempt to be like Bob Dylan by name-checking everything. So they're like "Well, shit, Lord of the Rings is cool, so we'll just take... the... hmm... we'll just throw in the names of all these things."

Which is a pity, because the song's OK.

As for Stones lyrics... how 'bout "Tie You Up"? Come to think of it, how 'bout most of Undercover...

-tSYX --- I was married yesterday, to a teenage bride...

what is so strange about that?

I understand if that is not your cup of tea, but it ain't strange...

"I was born in a crossfire hurricane..." what the hell does tha mean?

if someone has the complete lyrics to JJF, I would love to see them posted...

thanks.

Brown Sugar Jumpin' Jack Flash (Mick Jagger/Keith Richards)

I was born in a cross-fire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's all right now, I'm Jumpin' Jack Flash
It's a gas! Gas! Gas!

I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag
I was schooled with a strap right across my back
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's etc...

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead
I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled
I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread
I was crowned with a spike right thru my head
But it's all right now, in fact, it's a gas!
But it's etc...
Jumpin' Jack Flash, it's a gas

...and thats Adriana Lima, before you ask...

MarthaMyDear Another Land, which I LOVE!!! Just the imagery and music (not really the lyrics)...

Sir Stonesalot Sharks will cry.

WTF?
06-07-03 08:21 PM
mac_daddy thanks Brown Sugar - it ain't that cryptic after-all

Ehh, Mick was in "that phase". It's basically "Wired All Night" with slightly different phrasing.

Substitute 'The Fire Chief' for 'The National Guard' and so forth and cut out Pedro the Pimp, etc., etc., etc.. It's a Keith Rocker that Mick went all Don Giovanni on.

-tSYX --- Mmm... Sparks will fly.... Sharks will cry...
06-07-03 09:54 PM
Nellcote Mac Daddy, "Crossfire Hurricane" has WWI implications, as Keith was in the path of the bombing runs as a yuth...

Xzzy, Sparks Will Fly was a Keith "incoming", read the info with Voodoo Stew...He sings it on that as well, if I recall..

Anything on Satanic gets my award...

JaggaRichards I heard JJF was about a gardiner who worked for Keith at Redlands.

stonedinaustralia i'd have to go with "casino boogie" - dada was a rolling stone!

according to Sanchez ( i think) - it was keith's attempt at the burroughs cut up style using a shot gun instead of scissors

at once deeply profound and totally meaningless

06-08-03 12:21 AM
sammy davis jr. Casino Boogie has the best lyrics.....odd yes, but cool.

Cant Catch Me Hey Brown Sugar, it's "Fiji Jim," and I suppose the song tells the tale of Jim from the Fiji Islands. Speaking of Fiji and suchlike, where's our regular poster Fiji Jim been? Maybe he could explain the song that became his online name, although I think he's said he actually lives in Kansas City.

The strangest reaction to any Stones lyric, though, has to be "Brown Sugar," which nobody seems to understand. Most critics say it includes imagery of whipping slaves for pleasure, eating pussy and a homosexual liaison between Jagger and an unknown male (plus of course references to well known Russian canine researchers and slobbering). Whatever, I just wonder why it tastes so good.
06-08-03 01:03 AM
stonedinaustralia CCM i think Brown Sugar is rferring to the line in "family"

"he can't play guitar like ?? King or write St.Augustine if he tried"
06-08-03 02:43 AM
FPM C10 They got good'n'strange in '66. Toss up between "Have You Seen Your Mother Baby (Standing in the Shadow)" - hell, just the title - and "Who's Drivin' Yer Plane". Both among my absolute favorites.
06-09-03 02:18 AM
Cant Catch Me Yep, SIA, you're right, "EG Jim" is from "Family" on Metamorphosis. I didn't remember that line before my previous post. And, my head must really not be screwed on right, because the "salivate like Pavlov's dog" references are in "Bitch," not "Brown Sugar."

06-09-03 02:42 AM
Child of the Moon I think "I Am Waiting" is one of those ones that I really love, but I just can't get my head around. I honestly am not too sure what that song is implying...

And the lyrics to "Midnight Rambler" are really weird, too, in that creepy/brilliant way. Y'know, the lunatic at the bus station talking to himself, alternating between first and third person... just scarifying, really.
06-09-03 04:15 AM
chrisloc I am waiting is about "The Death"
As strange as it seems, when he was younger, Mick was
afraid of dying (maybe 'cause of cold war and nuclear
fear)
Same about "What a shame"

JaggerLips JJF is a bit weird but the weirdest one I have heard so far and also happens to be one of my favourites is Undercover of the Night

Hear the screams in centre 42
Loud enough to bust your brains out
opposition's tongue is cut in two
keep off the streets cos you're in danger
10000 disparas lost in the jails of South America

AND THE REST!

I absolutely love it!

Tie You Up is weird too even though the lyrics aren't that nice I can't help but sing along to it.
06-09-03 11:15 AM
Jaxx too much blood does it for me. total weirdness from the getgo. please! the lyrics are the antithesis of the music. he's not only singing (and rapping) about, but describing a very macabre, grotesque murder. (put her bones in the refrigerator, ate them piece by piece--gag me) yet the music is upbeat, discoey almost bassanovaish. this one gets my vote for its violent lyrics tied up in a musical delight.

Nellcote Jaxx;

Thought I read Too Much Blood was factually based on a situation in Paris? Sounds like our Jeffery Dahmer...Long version is wicked pissa
06-09-03 12:37 PM
mac_daddy Undercover is reality-based, too - isn't it?

yes and yes. it appears the macabre as well as the covert make for "weird" song lyrics.
