Stones tipped to tour Down Under
By NUI TE KOHA

THE Rolling Stones are tipped to tour Australia next April.
Concert industry sources say plans for a Stones show in Auckland, New Zealand, will pave the way for Sydney and Melbourne dates.

"There is a one to two-week window of opportunity presenting itself for a short run in major Australian markets," a leading promoter said.

The Stones' tour plans herald a summer of superstar rock. U2 is expected in February and Paul McCartney is strongly tipped to tour.

It is also rumoured that John Fogerty, former frontman of Creedence Clearwater Revival, will tour with John Mellencamp.

Michael Cohl, the Stones' longtime tour promoter, is firming up shows in New Zealand and Japan in March and April.

Promoters expect Cohl to offer a limited date run in Australia during that time.

"When Auckland and Tokyo is locked in, Australia will follow," an industry source said.

The Rolling Stones, touring to support a new studio album, will perform stadium, arena and theatre shows.

They will bring an arena production to Australia and New Zealand.

The band last performed in Melbourne in 2003 as part of its Forty Licks World Tour, which sold out three shows at Rod Laver Arena.

corgi37 I read the article too. I am not getting too excited yet. I just dont know how a Auckland gig was lined up before anything else. If they do announce that N.Z. gig, then i will be 100% confident a quickie tour of here will happen. And, again, it will only be arena.

Still, if through some unlucky fluke they only play a show in N.Z., then no probs. Airfares there are cheap as chips.

I am never convinced until i see them come on stage. Actually, i am never fully satisfied until they take their bows. When i saw them in 95 i was so sure they would cancel at the last minute, or Mick would lose his voice, or Keef would fall over.

The final fireworks were like a relief, in a way.

Anyway, fingers crossed.

exile Hey here is an idea for us Aussies,
How about this? Why dont we all swap mobile numbers, this is obviously after a tour is annonced in Australia, if one of us notices a theatre gig or any OZ tickets on sale we text each other really quickly and we get our asses over to a computer where ever we are and get some tickets

I know Daethgod, Corgi, stonedinaustralia are all in Australia, anyone else?

Just an idea anyway, hanging for a tour

If its true that NZ are getting a tour(im not sure if thats true) then we are definitely getting a stones tour here in OZ

i hit the stonesy sites daily just sniffing about.. but i am sure it will be in mainstream press asap.

glencar Well, this is exciting news! As some might have read, I was planning on traveling there (from NY) in Nov. I will now have to think about delaying it for five months. Even if I can't get tix on the net, it still might be worth visiting the venues on concert days.
