I think "Miss You" on Some Girls and "Just My Imagination" on Still Life are two of Bill's best. Also, "Honky Tonk Women" and "Start Me Up" show how not playing as much is often better. Anybody else? |

I was really knocked on my ass after finally seeing that Hampton -81 gig a few months ago on DVD. Bill is quite high in the mix, so one can really hear what the man is playing. Check out Let It Bleed! The man seems to thinking of tomorrows grocery shopping, but plays like hell.
I remember there was some disappointment on this board in Darryl's playing on that song from the HBO gig (the version was compared to Status Quo...). Listen to HBO's and Hampton's LIB back to back and be amazed.
Bill ruled! |

Bill, in the Stones is a badass. Studio version of "Whip". Respectable- studio version. It's Only Rock n' Roll- off Love You Live, 4:13 when him and Chuck shift into overdrive to finish the song out. Gives me chills every time. |

Not only the released version of 'Whip',but also the 10+ minute take, where he SMOKES-also the first take of Respectable, where he has it DOWN already...Also now with the remasters, some of his earlier stuff is much more evident-the Chess sessions especially, where he is really giving the whole band a solid floor to bounce off of....Plus,if you want to go back further to the IBC sessions,it is easy to tell that him and Charlie are the real PROS at that point in time, and have already locked into each other after only two months or so... |

and thats either Billy Preston or Stu on LOVE YOU LIVE by the way... |

Does ol' Bill play slap bass on You Can't Catch Me (from the 2nd album)? Sure sounds like it...Or was there some other bassplayer in that session? |

Bass line on Miss You, Jumpin Jack Flash. These are two of the more underlying bass riffs in rock, which are as fresh sounding today, as when they were released.

And that ain't easy .
However , even Keno and Josh will tell you flat out that the greatest player EVER to pick up the bass was John Entwistle . Period . Don't believe me ?????? Go and ask them ...............................
