Topic: Italy 67: Milan, Genoa, Rome Return to archive

elmolewis69 Hi! I'm looking for whatever information, picture, articles, etc., regarding the three 1967 italian dates in Milan, Genoa, Rome. Anybody of you attended to these concerts? Tks for contacting me.

Navin Is it true that only 3000 turned out at the 1989-90 Steel Wheels gig in Rome (on Mick's birthday) and being the only one not to sell out on that tour?

Gazza No, thats not true. (although coincidentally a 2nd Paris stadium show scheduled for Mick's birthday in 1998 was cancelled due to poor sales, maybe thats what youre thing of..)

However a second Turin concert scheduled for 29th July 1990 was cancelled due to poor ticket sales. The Stones still used the stadium anyway to shoot some footage for "At The Max"

Just like in 1982 and 1998, the Stones European tour coincided with the World Cup being held in Europe. The 1990 tournament took place in Italy and (as was the case with France in 1998) it affected the ticket sales in the host country.

Italy however wasnt the only country in 1990 that the Stones found hard to sell tickets in. They were scheduled to play in Dublin's Lansdowne Road stadium on July 16th (and even had an option on a show on the 17th too if tickets sold well enough) but with Eire qualifying for the World Cup for the first time ever, not even the Pope could have sold out that summer. The Stones werent alone in having to cancel. They only sold about 5,000 tickets for Dublin even though they'd sold 80,000 for Slane eight years before! When they cancelled the show, the official excuse was logistical problems in not being able to ship their equipment over in time, but this was a face-saving exercise and utterly untrue. Even Ronnie alluded to it when he played a solo gig in Dublin in 2001. Still, when the Stones came back in 2003 they sold out 16,000 tickets in four minutes even though it was the most expensive rock concerts ever in Ireland

Navin Thaks Gazza

However, Elmolewis69, who started this thread has quite a different question about 1967 dates, hope we get back to that with all due respect.

elmolewis69 Well, yes, I asked something different. The fact is that, there have been 8 concerts in Italy in April 1967: 2 in Bologna, 2 in Rome, 2 in Milan and 2 in Genoa. There were also some riots in Rome amd a polemic meeting with the press in Milan. Brigitte Bardot, Gina Lollobrigida seems attended to the Rome show. Apart a bootleg of Milan 2nd show (incomplete) there're no tapes of these concerts. And apart 2 pics of Brian and one posted on the book A life on the road, there's nothing else around. If you have something, whatever information, or if you have attended to one of these show, please write me.
thanks
