"LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Ronnie Wood has been given a Romany gypsy caravan for his 60th birthday.
Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie woke up to find the £40,000 traditional painted caravan parked in his drive, left there as a surprise from his wife Jo.
A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Ronnie rolled out of the house in the morning and burst out laughing when he saw it. He's delighted with the caravan.
"He has Romany gypsy roots and always said he wanted one."
The ageing rocker joked he might even take the caravan on tour this summer.
The source added: "The Stones are playing the Isle of Wight Festival in the summer so he'll have a perfect chance to give it a good road test."
Ronnie, who turns 60 on June 1, was born to Romany gypsy parents and spent some of his childhood living on tugboats.
Former model Jo married Ronnie in 1985. The couple have two children together - Leah and Tyrone - and both have one child from previous relationships.

Never knew Woody was Romany. That's some interesting roots. Despite the name given to them in Europe, "Gypsies" do not come from Egypt. Their language is most closely related to Indian languages such as Hindi, which would connect Woody with Ravi Shankar. Keep playin' that electric sitar, Ronnie!

As far as I’m aware, Ronnie was the first Wood to be born on land. Up until the family settled in Middlesex, they all lived on tug boats.
I always thought Gypsies originated from places like Portugal. Most UK based gypsies these days speak English and they certainly don't have those lovely old caravans. They have great big motorised vehicles and they are a nuisance too. Always setting up camp in places they are not allowed too.

Correct Honky, i got deep into it. The Woods were "water gypsies" working infact with wood craft and moving with boats. you can see that ron, poor art and bros have no english look. ron ws the first born bewtween walls cause the mother was sick of humidity and worried for moqueries at school.
THe origins of gipsies is not 100 sure. the name gypsi come frm the mistaken idea they were from egipt (also gitane).
the name bohemian comes from the mistaken legend they were from Praga surrounds
romany and sinty (ron is a rom) are more than likely descendant of and indian discarted cast, hence their languages that resembles the one of low cast indians.
ron's dad use to be a multi-instrument man, tipic of nomadic attitude of picking up instrunets and music anywhere.
in lemmy kilmister bio you find ronny teenager, lemmy talks about him and his lovely and nurturing mother, and they already live in houses.
ron on the other hand never spoke rom. |
