How come no video is online yet? The news here thought shots of the parrot attending the premiere were more interesting than Keith

There's a bit (just a bit) of Keith here for ya, Fotini.

killerbitch Someone told me that when Keith was making this last movie that he
was so wasted after coming out of his dressing room they had to prop him
up for some of his scenes in the movie. It was supposed to be the ones where
he is shown from the waist up. I don't know if this was from an online tabloid
article, they remembered reading it. If anyone has heard anything about this
I would think it isn't true probably just tabloid fodder, but interesting nonetheless as to some of the stuff they write. Haven't tried to find it either.

FotiniD There's a video on keithrichards.com with Keith talking about his Pirates experience and some footage of him sitting in a hammock, smoking a cigar, driving...

Thanks to with sssoul for the heads up, in IORR. He does look a bit drunk indeed, I don't know if it's the Keith act one more time or not...

corgi37 Due to time difference, Australia is the 1st country in the world to show Pirates. Reviews are not great - not that anyone expected them to be. But one of the most emphatic statements is that Keith's appearance is a fizzer.

And hey - What is up with Patti's nostrils?

Homercles Just got back from seeing Pirates and it was AWESOME. Keith was very cool too btw, definitely wasn't a fizzer. There is a very funny moment when Jack Sparrow asks his Dad how his Mum is.

mrhipfl I heard Keith was good, but the scene was pretty brief and uneventful.

MrPleasant Random quotes, regarding Keith's appearance in "Pirates". Predictably, the movie hasn't been too well received by the critics. But not everybody who disliked the film, disliked the "cameo" (after all, he's merely, sort of, "taking a bow for his contribution" - http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/movies/2007/05/23/2007-05-23_all_at_sea.html )

"Keith Richards shows up for a few minutes and except for that nagging unease when you realize that the real-life buccaneer and Rolling Stone speaks more clearly than most of the professional actors in the cast, he looks right at home."
http://www.therecord.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=record/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1179981276104&call_pageid=1024322089000&col=1024322319351

"And be on the lookout for Rolling Stone Keith Richards (the inspiration for Depp’s Jack Sparrow) as a pirate lawgiver. He’s on screen for about one minute and shouldn’t give up his day job."
http://www.kansascity.com/entertainment/movies/story/120744.html

"The long-discussed Keith Richards cameo is a gimmick, but a briefly funny one."
http://www.cinematical.com/2007/05/24/review-pirates-of-the-caribbean-at-worlds-end-scotts-revi/

"The good news is: Richards is great fun in a tiny role."
http://www.ocala.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070524/ENTERTAINMENT/205240326/1368/googlesitemapnews

"The much ballyhooed appearance of Richards in the movie takes place during one of the film’s dozens of meetings, but because he’s ‘Keith Richards Rock Star’ his appearance really stands out. And yes, he’s good and yes, that was one sweet job of casting."
http://movies.about.com/od/piratesofthecaribbean3/fr/pirates3052407.htm

"Keith Richards, (...) about as simian as the real thing."
http://www.oneguysopinion.com/Review.php?ID=2206

"It's not about living forever; the trick is living with yourself, says Rolling Stone Keith Richards, who plays Jack Sparrow's pirate father in a cameo that is small, but leaves its mark."
http://www.urbancinefile.com.au/home/view.asp?a=13130&s=Reviews

"A dreary cameo".
http://www.slantmagazine.com/film/film_review.asp?ID=2993

"I’m still a little confused about the fake pointy schnozz worn in a too-brief cameo by a certain Rolling Stones guitarist."
http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/view.php?id=14698

"Keith Richards is in this scene, but not as a Pirate Lord. I’m not even sure he’s conscious, to tell you the truth. He definitely looks like he belongs in Davey Jones’ crew of undersea monsters, though."
http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=reviews&id=10402

"When Keith Richards, as Jack's matey of a father, finally shows up, for roughly two minutes, brandishing a face that's like melted Silly Putty, he makes Davy Jones, with his squishy tentacled mug, look like a Neutrogena spokesmodel."
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20039931,00.html

"The good news first: Keith Richards totally rocks it playing pirate daddy to Johnny Depp's Capt. Jack Sparrow. The deep rumble of his voice and those hooded eyes that narrowly open like the creaky gates of hell make him what the rest of this three-peat is not: authentically scary. It's fun to see Richards swagger, even sitting down. Watch him stage a macabre reunion for Jack and his dear old mum. Don't worry, I won't reveal her secret."
http://www.rollingstone.com/reviews/movie/9474908/review/14756791/pirates_of_the_caribbean_at_worlds_end

"Keith Richards makes a well-placed cameo. That guy was born to play a pirate."
http://www.hollywood.com/review/Pirates_of_the_Caribbean_At_Worlds_End/3703111

"Even the feverishly-reported cameo of one Keith Richards isn’t enough to turn up the hokey factor as he fits in just perfectly and at just the right moment."
http://www.efilmcritic.com/review.php?movie=15536&reviewer=198

"Keith Richards makes a desultory appearance as Capt. Teague, Jack's father, but the bit doesn't add much beyond an obligatory meta-nod to Depp's actorly inspiration."
http://www.calendarlive.com/movies/cl-et-pirates23may23,0,4911663.story?coll=cl-movies-top-right

"Keith Richards' hyped cameo is practically a still-life."
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment/movies/orl-db-moviereviews-searchresults,0,3279701,results.formprofile?Lib=turbine_cdb_lib%3Aresult_doc_id+result_doc_rank+document_id+cdb_num+cdb_01_txt+cdb_02_txt+cdb_03_txt+cdb_04_txt+cdb_05_txt+cdb_06_txt+cdb_07_txt+cdb_08_txt+cdb_09_txt+cdb_10_txt+cdb_11_txt+cdb_12_txt+cdb_13_txt+cdb_15_txt+cdb_14_txt+cdb_16_txt+cdb_17_txt+cdb_18_txt+cdb_19_txt+cdb_20_txt+cdb_21_txt+cdb_22_txt+cdb_23_txt+cdb_24_txt+cdb_25_txt+cdb_26_txt&PageSize=1&Page=1&MinCoarseRank=500&QueryType=CONCEPT&Query=&turbine_cdb_lib__cdb_01_txt=Pirates%20of%20the%20Caribbean:%20At%20World's%20End&Find+it%21=Submit+Query

"Armed with the Pirata Codex, a kind of bare bones rule book establishing a dubious honor among thieves for the instinctively anarchistic pirates, Richards' crusty old pirate soon hardly seems to care, settling back to strumming instead on a vintage guitar. Well worth the wait as long as you don't blink an eye before that glorious moment is all gone, matey."
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/click/movie-1165611/reviews.php?critic=fresh&sortby=default&page=3&rid=1634411

(Judging by this parody cover - http://www.lacitybeat.com/media/207/popup.gif - you'd think that the critics in this magazine would hate the film. Well, they didn't exactly liked it, but, they liked Keith.)

"It would be unfair to suggest that there are no decent minutes among At World’s End’s 168. Keith Richards shows up for about three of them, and, while his presence is briefly distracting, it’s also strangely affecting. It’s not so much a matter of performance as it is his face – one of the most lived-in in the world. There’s about 150 years of hard living writ there, and it gives his countenance a depth and melancholy the film does not deserve."

mac_daddy mi esposa pointed this out to me (from defamer)

quote:
· With an army of Paparazzi already in place by 8:15, I knew Friday wasn't going to be a quiet night at Il Sole. Would it be Drew and Cammie? Jen or Courtney? As soon as I entered the dining room, it was clear that it would be way better than that. Keith Richards! With the wifey, the daughters, the boyfriends, all sharing wine and loud conversation around the 8-topper in the main dining room. Keith was clearly in town for the Pirates premiere and he looked the part: eye-liner, the hats and scarves, hair and even the ironic-cool, John Waters meets John Holmes hipster mustache that all the kids are wearing. The wife looked amazing, better even then the daughters. Better still, the guy had two security/assistants eating on the patio, mostly so Keith could switch spots with them every 20 minutes and smoke. Atone point, the 'razzi were swarming so badly that the management tried to hang black tablecloths in the windows. Keith just waved them off with an"Awww, fuck 'em, fuck 'em all..." and stayed planted in his seat smoking anddrinking red wine. The night ended with a quick slip out the back while security created the impression of a false exit out the front. Somehow my $55 Lobster pasta special (why did they raise it $20 when it went from a menu item to a special?) went down that much easier with Keith in the house.

gypsy It's old news to us...but here's an excerpt from a Johnny Depp interview in the current issue of OK! Magazine:

OK: Johnny's relief when Keith Richards' heard he was the inspiration for Jack?

Johnny: I was scared. But his reaction was terrific. He was very supportive and has been ever since. When we were hanging out together, before I did Pirates, it wasn't like I told him, 'I'm sponging parts of your soul.' He was great about it. He's the perfect father for Captain Jack.

When asked if he'd like to play a young Keith Richards, Johnny laughs, "Now THAT would be fun!"
