Judge rules sex offender is too short for prison
5-foot-1 man gets 10 years probation for sexual assault of a child

SIDNEY, Neb. - A judge said a 5-foot-1 man convicted of sexually assaulting a child was too small to survive in prison, and gave him 10 years of probation instead.
His crimes deserved a long sentence, District Judge Kristine Cecava said, but she worried that Richard W. Thompson, 50, would be especially imperiled by prison dangers.
"You are a sex offender, and you did it to a child," she said.
But, she said, "That doesn't make you a hunter. You do not fit in that category."
Thompson will be electronically monitored the first four months of his probation, and he was told to never be alone with someone under age 18 or date or live with a woman whose children were under 18. Cecava also ordered Thompson to get rid of his pornography.
He faces 30 days of jail each year of his probation unless he follows its conditions closely.
"I want control of you until I know you have integrated change into your life," the judge told Thompson. "I truly hope that my bet on you being OK out in society is not misplaced."

In México, a state is planning to not consider driving under the influence of alcohol as a felony. |

Much more info would be needed to make any determination one way or the other. Circumstances of the crime, prior record, etc.
In my experience, judges who have all the facts, usually make the right call on these things. On the few occasions where they make mistakes, or even don't make a mistake and something bad happens anyway, the liberal media goes haywire reporting it in extreme fashion, then politicians and talking heads throw their hands up and pretend they are so exasperated with the justice system, impressionable members of the public think the world is coming to an end, and on and on it goes for a few days......what a whacked out country this is in many ways. |

That SHOULD be the law in any country that truly considers itself to be free. |

Every lunatic can hop into a car and smash his/her being into an old lady's front door, because he/she wants to buy a pizza.

We need stricter laws, thus forcing people to take taxis. Making tons of money off people who forgot where they live, so you drive around for ten minutes... Cha-ching, I'm getting rich! |

Some of them are so damn bad, its a wonder they ever got anywhere. Bob Shapiro? Sorry, I know he's one of yours, but that dude just sucks - he couldn't form a leading question to save his own life! Cochran and his team were half ass too. Petrocelli? Pffft.
Black is pretty good, I suppose. Bailey had some fire, but even he is overrated.
I think many of them gain ground because the prosecutors they go up against are almost always the worst lawyers on the planet - all the idiots at the bottom in law school go on to become prosecutors - its the only gig those dopes can ever get! |

Is the rationale that they are unable to protect themselves or simply because they have a smaller piece of stick that would be unpopular in the big house? |

The problem in México, pdog, as everyone knows, is that the poor ones are the ones who really pay taxes. And a big percentage of the dough goes to political campaigns -- hence the garbage in the streets, the crazy media and the know-nothing politicians.
And we're supposed to be a democratic country. |

Poor bastard! He couldn't get out of jury duty - or -shudder- he didn't want to!!!
I have been sued no less than 9 times now - - settled seven of those times, and shredded the poor idiots the other two.
As my uncle has told me many times, if you can avoid it, don't let it go to trial. Americans are by and large stupid - and stupid is what sits on a jury... |
