I love it too, is so similar to our own family snapshot that snapshot was taken in 1967 and the pic is from 1968 so it matches the timeframe.

I love also the white thing on the table

Rags It's great to read all of the support for Pete here. The Who, Stones, & Faces fans are united. We're like family. We thank you for sticking by Pete through this very difficult time. Rolling Stone magazine recently published this email from Pete:

"I intend to work my way back to normality. As a result of all this shit, I've decided to greatly formalize the structure of my charity (Double-O) and the way I work with "survivors" -- so that in future my work is more well-known to everyone. I've kept my profile low in this area out of modesty I suppose, and it has worked against me. I am going to complete my autobiography, Pete Townshend (who he?). I put it down and did not plan to finish it until much later. But now I am going to push ahead until it is done. People need to read about my entire life to get a real picture of who I am. I hope to finish it by the end of the year. So it may come out next year sometime. I am also going to get up and play just as soon as I can.

Finally, I'm going out onto the street to meet people, to smile and shake hands with everyone who has been supportive of me in my hometown. But also to give those people who are "undecided" a chance to look me in the eye and make their own decision.

Going on TV won't help me. I'm too wounded, too crazy, too happy and grateful, too resentful and too busy.

Who fans? I hope that life will go on as usual. Roger has been a rock."

sirmoonie Thanks Rags!

You are the man. Man you is.

Rolling Stone has been pathetic in its support of Pete, especially when it became clear what the full boat was. Friggin' pissfork Wenner. Only reason his magazine rose to its stature and fame was because of brilliant, larger than life bands like The WHO.
05-20-03 10:13 PM
Rags Thanks Moonie! LOL! I'm a girl...Rags is my dog's name. That's Ok, everyone always thinks I'm a guy by my username. We gals have a cool taste in music, don't we?

Rolling Stone has gone downhill since it's heyday. I mean Justin Timberlake makes the cover over the death of Joe Stummer. That's just one example. They didn't even deserve a letter from Pete, but his voice needs to be heard. It was so good to hear from him, and it sounds like things are looking up. GO PETE, GO!

Martha Thanks for posting that message from Petey, Rags and welcome to the board!

Pete is a musical genius. I love what he has done for the landscape of Rock and Roll.

I am so glad he is being supported by so many of his peers and fans. It does my heart good to hear that from Pete. Count me in as a fan (and fellow survivor) who never doubted his innocence for a moment.

LOL Martha, that was a good one, Rags has been on the board since January and she has 58 messages, well never's too late to say Welcome to the board

Martha Voodoo shit, I can't catch the amount of everyone's posts like you do! LOL 58 posts!?! That is funny. Guess I'll never make it as an adminstrator (whew!....dodged that one)!

I never welcomed them before and, so, thought I would today. I had to at least to thank them for what they offered about Petey. :-)

Great header shot!

Prodigal Son Savage, Wild Life? That's pretty torturing, but let's pop in Red Rose Speedway and see who could survive without leaving the vicinity. As for Pete, he is one of rock's icons along with John Lennon, Paul (to an extent), Mick, Keith, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lou Reed, Elvis, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Ray Davies and several more (all I know is that none of them got going in the 80s).
05-21-03 07:58 AM
TheSavageYoungXyzzy Prodigal Son, I absolutely *loathe* Red Rose Speedway. It is without question the sorriest excuse for an album ever.

(Granted, I won't even *touch* stuff like Give My Regards To Broad Street and Press To Play, but hell, it's just *awful*...)

Only good song on it is "Big Barn Red" and the four bonus tracks that weren't on the original album.

After listening to Wild Life a few times, I kinda dug it. It has that "Well, here we are then... we have no songs... let's make an album!" kinda feel to it. I think he shoulda kept the strings off of "Dear Friend", though.

And hired Pete Townshend, just to windmill about.

Though in '72 ol' Petey was moving more records than McCartney... and he already had an excellent bass player.

Rags Thanks for the welcome Martha! It think practically all of my 58 posts are plugs for Ian 'Mac' McLagan/The Faces and support for Pete. So, that's probably how you missed me. Thanks to Voodoo for letting me get the word out to the Stones fans. You are all more than welcome to visit us on the Faces and Who forums that I co-admin. Hope to see you there...

RubyFriday Townshend Wants to Finish His Book

NEW YORK - AP - Rock guitarist and Who co-founder Pete Townshend has decided to hurry up with his autobiography so people get a better idea of his life.

Rolling Stone has published an e-mail it received from Townshend, one of the few times he's spoken since he was cleared on child porn charges in Britain this month. Townshend says he meant to put his autobiography aside for a while, but now he wants to finish it before the end of the year.

Townshend says he wants to formalize his charity and the way he works with "survivors" so his work is better known.

The guitarist also says he wants to shake hands with everyone who's supported him and praises Who singer Roger Daltrey as "a rock."

Townshend, 57, was arrested in January on suspicion of making and possessing indecent images of children. The arrest was part of Operation Ore, an FBI-led crackdown on Internet child pornography.

The musician acknowledged using his credit card to enter a Web site advertising child pornography but said he was doing research for his autobiography. He denied being a pedophile and said he had campaigned against child pornography.

The title character in Townshend's rock opera "Tommy" a deaf, dumb and blind pinball wizard is sexually abused by an uncle, and Townshend said he believed he was sexually abused as a young boy while in the care of his mentally ill grandmother.

Townshend, known for his windmill style of playing guitar and smashing the instrument on stage, was one of The Who's four founding members, along with bassist John Entwistle ,singer Roger Daltrey and drummer Keith Moon . Moon died in 1978 and Entwistle died last year, but Townshend and Daltrey continued touring.

The group, founded in London in the early 1960s, was part of the first British rock invasion with the Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Their hits included "My Generation," "I Can See for Miles," "Pinball Wizard" and "Won't Get Fooled Again."

The Who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

Prodigal Son Yep, a few reviews of Red Rose gave it one star: *! Then Robert Christgau gave it a D+ saying it was perhaps the worst album by a rock star beside Dylan's Dylan, because Self-Portrait was even better than Red Rose. Other McCartney ones worthy of burning are McCartney II and Back to the Egg. Or the 12-inch for "Coming up." arrrrrgghghg. But what's all this talk on this board of John's biggest mistake being nice to Payl. It was fate? What did people expect him to do? Say "Fuck off, Paul. I want to be tough like the Stones." No! If you knew people would one day say how much better the Stones were, yet your own band with Paul was gonna be even more well-liked, what would you do? Ditch Paul and start a Stones-like band.
The Beatles are good at what they did: pop, and sometimes rock. But the Stones were the darker side of them. But even the Stones themselves would laugh if they saw how badly some people speak of the Beatles. If you're just pissed off at their overexposure, fine. But to dennounce their music and say how crappy and unoriginal it was, is unfair. If I were given the chance, I'd have loved to write those classic songs. Could anybody here really be a better band, and writers, than them. No! But if you feel like ripping Styx, journey, Supertramp, et al, go ahead. Cause anyone can be better than those losers!
05-21-03 06:57 PM
TheSavageYoungXyzzy Ahh, Prodigal Son, I must say.

Back To The Egg is McCartney trying to do a Some Girls album.

Some of the songs... in fact a majority of them... are quite awesome. "Getting Closer", "Reception", "We're Open Tonight", "Spin It On", "Old Siam, Sir", "Baby's Request", "To You"... awesome numbers. But the real shiners are "Rockestra" and "So Glad To See You Here", basically a huge jam band. They're songs to listen to on the highway. They're flyers.

Listen not to The Joey. He is unwise in such Back To The Egg matters.

I agree with the reviews of Red Rose Speedway. "Loup (First Indian On The Moon)" is the only song I can say that's ever induced physical pain when listened to.

God, I'm incoherant tonight. Oh well.

-tSYX --- I taught her everything...
05-22-03 12:07 AM
Prodigal Son Oh yeah. THe other really bad "album" by a major artist besides Dylan and McCartney would be Neil Young's Journey Through the Past; a bad bio movie with a slapdash soundtrack: mediocre live versions, bad outtakes and several instrumentals, a 15 minute piece of crap called "Words" and even the Beach Boys' insturmental "Let's Go Away for Awhile." You want crap, then try this! Then again some here feel the same about Dirty Work. If you think Elton was a real major artist, then Blue Moves is pretty lame. We could go on for days, but I won't.
05-22-03 10:48 AM
Joey TSYX ...............................................

" Back to the Egg " is considered by many to be the worst album EVER recorded in the History of Rock and Roll .

Even worse than " Dirty Work " ...........

In fact , when John Lennon heard what McCartney had done , his completely disowned him .

True Story .............and now , THIS :

Surrounded by people ,
A real heavy crowd ;
But inside I still feel lonely now !

Should I get away ,
From the high heels so proud ;
Is there something different life can show me now ?

First chance - I blew it, I better start it all again ;
Second chance - Ooh, I knew it wouldn't be as easy as they said .
Third chance - I'm cut up, life's like a razor's edge ;
Fourth chance - Ooh, I'm all shut up and I'm standing on the ledge .

And I'm goin' down (I'm goin' down)
Goin' down (I'm goin' down)
Goin' down (I'm goin' down)
Ooh, down

I'm not a loser
But did I really win?
Can I afford to go through it all again ??????????????

Developing.....................

JOEY !

05-22-03 11:32 PM
sirmoonie You mean The Petey? Hmmm, I see.

When I look at the hole in your coat.
I have to love you more.
I remember when I was a child
And my brother slept on the floor.

Oh, I know that the sun don't shine
Down on every man.
But when women let the my brother down.
I swore one day I'd land
Me one Mary
Swore I'd land me one Mary.

Oooh, Ragsie girl, I just gotta love you with a fiery intensity.

Joey Moonie ...................................

That is really good ................When did you first compose that one ??? You have topped me once again .

Let me think ......Really hard now ...............

Ok , here it goes :

My head is spinning as I scrawl with my pen ,
'Cause I've been pouring vodka in my soul ;
Nothing really ever changes my friend ......
New lamps for old.............
New lamps for old .

We sing the same old song, just like a vintage car ,
You can look but you won't ever drive it ;
We drink the same old wine from a brand new jar ,
We get hung over, but we always survive it .

Turn on the radio
Love is proclaimed
Again and again and again
Join in and sing
Now, don't be ashamed
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain .............................

-- Thank You

JACKY !

sirmoonie What will the others say Joey? Have they been warned like a Rocket 88? Catch her eye, flashing pie.

We're the slaves of the phony leaders. Breathe the air we have blown you.

Joey, you drinking tonight? Its nation time!

Damn Straight My Brother , I AM INDEED drinking tonight ............................." JaggerBombs " and NewCastles all evening --------------the weather is perfect this time of year for " Heavy Drinking " .

Moonie , one thing I have learned these past seven months , beware when the " Red Bull " wears off :

NASTY --- like a Viet Cong -- MAO !!! SLAP !!! MAO !!!

What ??????? Oh sure Neil , HERE you go :

Zoot suit, white jacket with side vents
Five inches long.
I'm out on the street again
And I'm leaping along.
I'm dressed right for a beach fight,
But I just can't explain
Why that uncertain feeling is still
Here in my brain.

JACKY !

TheSavageYoungXyzzy Joey.............................................

Give the ol' album a whirl. It's a favorite of mine. You won't be disappointed. And neither would Pete.

In fact, upon hearing an early demo of "So Glad To See You Here", Petey remarked the following:

I listened and I heard music in a word,
And words when you played your guitar.
The noise that I was hearin' was a million people cheerin',
And a child flew past me ridin' in a star...

-tSYX --- There once was a note... listen!
05-23-03 01:30 PM
Rags >Oooh, Ragsie girl, I just gotta love you with a fiery >intensity.

Hee hee! That reminds me of this Pete lyric:

"Your body's so delectable
I know for sure I'm gonna be amazed
You get me so erectable
I can predict you're gonna leave me raised

Your love is so predictable..."

05-23-03 01:55 PM
Prodigal Son Hmmm, yes. And that last one reminds me of some more choice lyrics Pete decided to lay on us. Damnit, enough to make you think he was gay. But he denies it.
Tough boys
Running the streets
Come a little closer
Rough toys
Under the sheets
Nobody knows her
Rough boys
Don't walk away
I very nearly missed you
Tough boys
Come over here
I wanna bite and kiss you
I wanna see what I can find
Tough kids
Take a bottle of wine
When your deal is broken
Ten quid
She's so easy to find
Not a word is spoken
Rough boys
Don't walk away
I'm still pretty blissed here
Tough boy
I'm gonna carry you home
You got pretty pissed dear
Gonna get inside you
Gonna get inside your bitter mind
Rough boys
Don't walk away
I wanna buy you leather
Make noise
Try and talk me away
We can't be seen together
Tough kids
What can I do?
I'm so pale and weedy
Rough fits
In my Hush Puppy shoes
But I'm still pleading
Tough boys
Running the streets
Come a little closer
Rough toys
Under the sheets
Nobody knows her
Rough boys
Don't walk away
I very nearly missed you
Tough boys
Come over here
I wanna bite and kiss you
I wanna see what I can find!

Woah, easy Petey. Meh, he's still great. It's a good song anyways.

Well yeah, my dear, there is that too.

But anyway,

I'm playing my guitar while my sister bangs the jar
The glass sets up a sound like people laughing
It's going to my brain and it's easing all my pain
I must hear this sound again 'cause time is passing

Find it, I got to hear it all again...
My heart has heard the sound of harmony
Blind to it, as my tears fall again
It's only by the music I'll be free

The Townsey!

Where is THAT From ?????????????? Man , I have got a LOT to learn about the Petey . What ????????? Of course :

I have to be careful not to preach
I can't pretend that I can teach,
And yet I've lived your future out
By pounding stages like a clown.
And on the dance floor broken glass,
The bloody faces slowly pass,
The broken seats in empty rows,
It all belongs to me you know.

Rags I wondered about 'Rough Boys' when I first heard it too. Pete has said that the song is written from the perspective of his two daughters about their fascination with the punk scene.
