MOVIE MOGUL MAKES THE CUT

HIGH fever and flu couldn't keep movie producer Bob Evans from flying to Cannes for the premiere of "The Kid Stays in the Picture." The documentary on the genius behind "The Godfather," "Love Story" and "Rosemary's Baby" screened last night after Evans made a triumphant march up the red carpet. But on Saturday night, Evans was in bed in Beverly Hills as Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, who produced the documentary, threw a party at the Hotel du Cap with such guests as Mick Jagger, Sting, Leonardo DiCaprio, Milla Jovovich, Harvey Weinstein and Christina Ricci. Carter urged Evans' brother Charles and friends including Wendy Stark and "The Kid Stays" director Bret Morgan to pressure him to come. ICM boss Jeff Berg asked Evans, "What's the worst that could happen? You could die on the red carpet." Evans made it to Nice on a private jet. He said, "Forty-eight hours ago, I was so sick, my doctor said, 'you'll go to Cannes over my dead body.' He may be dead, but I'm in Cannes."
