with the Euro tour about to kick off, I thought it would be pointlessly fun to obsess again over the great songs that they continue to deny playing for us live
1. DANCE LITTLE SISTER --- should be a live staple. Would rock the b-stage!
2. SALT OF THE EARTH -- one of their greatest. Could seemlessly replace YCAGWYW as a new WarHorse. Great sing along potential
3. EMOTIONAL RESCUE -- loved by few, hated by many.. but one of their biggest hits and an automatic crowd pleaser. Plus, Jagger could whip this up into a big stage production (picture him riding in on a giant disco ball)
4. SHINE A LIGHT -- thankfully they've played this a few times, but its proven to be great sing a long and warrents more playing time
5. HANG FIRE -- this classic rocker has been shamefully collecting moths for 25 years now
6. SLAVE -- Most infectious beat/groove ever. Even the 40 Licks fans that arent familiar with it would be grooving. I'd love to hear this one on the moving B-stage
7. THEIR ENTIRE 1st ALBUM

The most glaringly high profile omission is 'Out of Time', which has never been played live. Yet, where they to perform it, you can bet the whole stadium would sing along with it
Exactly 40% of their catalogue has never been performed in concert.

Agree especially 1 2 4 and 6
Fingerprint File: maybe a shorter, tighter version for 07, you know Mick would be up for singing it!
Off the Hook: Keith would love playing it, and I'm sure the crowd would like it, its damn catchy!
Play With Fire: so you did it in 1990. It's a great song, dammit, bring it back at least sparingly
Waiting on a Friend: yes they play it still, but i really wouldn't mind it being a war-pony, along the lines of ADTL or even SFM..its that good
Where the Boys Go: find one fan who wouldn't love to see this on the b-stage, then watch as he or she gets goosebumps as mick sings "do you wanna dance or do ya wanna fight.." |

I'm sure once Blondie gets the cowbell right, we'll hear slave. I'm quite surprised "too tight" was never performed live. Now that's a great song. |

I think Hang Fire has a good chance this summer. The Early 80's rockers have made a good comeback this tour. She's So Cold, She Was Hot and Little T&A. Hang Fire would fall right in line. |

when Mick goes out live, solo, in support of his next CD, I bet he dredges up a few Stones "obscurities." It'll give reason for all you MickSoloWOrk haters to go see his show. |

"It's Not Easy" would work well live. Great lyrics, chunky Chuck Berry rhythm, sinewy lead. |

Lots of good ideas here, yes lots. However, in light of current topics I would say "Sweet Neo Con" needs to be played. Just so we can all keep Mick Jagger's opinion in mind. And his harmonica playing is quite good on it too. It is after all, what The Stones believe. Let's not lose sight of that! |

The Wick |
Let Me Go
All the Way Down
Had It With You
Winter
Blue Turns to Grey
I Just Want to Make Love to You- how they recorded it, not the slower original version

Great house the old geezer had too.

Yes it was. Even better than the RnR Circus version. But I doubt Mick thinks people know of it, since its only on the same album as Sympathy for the Devil.. |

I agree Out of time would be awesome. Very popular song here in Oz.
Glaringly obvious to me is Come on. Hey, it was their 1st single. Ronnie has stated they often rehearse it.
To me the most glaring omission is perhaps their most famous. Or, infamous.
B stage. Just 2 spotlights. Jagger starts blowing the harp. Keith adds dirty blues licks...
"Cocksucker Blues"
Show THAT on MTV, ya bastards! |

I read a while back on one of the various boards a post from someone who knows Chuck Leavell quite well.
Chuck regularly draws up a list of potential songs for Mick to sing, as we all know by now. The basic rule of thumb is that when given a list of possible songs, Mick will stroke out anything from the Brian Jones era that isnt a single/warhorse. He simply doesn't want to know.
Mick's revisionist attitude to his back catalogue in the post "40 Licks" era and an entire about turn in his long-time aversion to the Stones being merely seen as a nostalgia act just playing their greatest hits ("just like the Beach Boys", as he once put it less than a decade ago) is a shocking attitude to what is an incredible body of work he had created over the last 45 years.

it's as Mick wants to apologize for the lack of good material...seems like if the song does not have mass appeal it's a failure in Mick's mind...also the effort seems not to be there to rehearse old(not warhorses) and new material for live performances, look at the years between B2B to ABB, Licks tour and Licks II tour....If the summer tour is the same I think we can close the final chapter of greatness... |
