Ten Thousand Motels Producers Scour for Cash Movie Locations

HERNANDO, Miss. - Producers have visited the Hernando area looking for possible locations for a movie based on the life of Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash .

"Walk the Line," now in preproduction, is expected to star Joaquin Phoenix as Cash and Reese Witherspoon as June Carter Cash.

Cash, the "Man in Black" of country music, was 71 when he died on Sept. 12, 2003, four months after the death of his wife, June Carter Cash, a member of a family legendary in Nashville, Tenn. She was 73.

Officials from the Memphis & Shelby County (Tenn.) Film and Television Commission visited the Hernando area last week, said Brian Goff, executive director of the Hernando/Main Street Chamber of Commerce .

"They are looking for houses and a hospital location," Goff said.

The Memphis film commission said producers hope to shoot most of the film in Memphis and the mid-South.
