Topic: Set list for this tour? Return to archive
May 20th, 2005 04:27 AM
marko Allright,no matter what songs,or what song in what order,
they allready done it,or either song doesn´t work live.
Lets say Tumbling dice, they´ve played it in the middle of
the set,in the end, also started the show.Same goes to most
of the warhorses, either way we look at it,they´ll play them
anyways.

What song should open the show?Song must be quite catchy,
and well known,also a song,they´ve never opened before,but
is there one?You got me rocking might work as an opener, but
i think its a bit too boring to open a show.Shattered might
be good as well,it was fun at the bush 6 years ago.
If they want to recycle opening song from the past,i think
its time to hear

Under my thumb
tumbling dice
shattered
undercover/she was hot
new song
have u seen your mother baby....
it´s only r´r(they play it anyways)
new ballad
far away eyes/waiting on a friend/as tears go by
i got the blues/beast of burden/almost hear you sigh
satisfaction
band introductions
Little t&a/happy
new keef/thru and thru/coming down again
out of control
oh no not u again
start me up
gimme shelter
street fighting man
rip this joint
brown sugar

2encores
sympathy
jjf

nah,this won´t work either,,,,,,,theres too many warhorses.
really hard to leave them out,or keep them.

Dan If there is anything really fast on the new album that starts with a catchy riff and is about 3 mins, they should open with that, then go right into Start Me Up and another hit. Then slightly obscure older song, another new song, "hit" ballad, obscure ballad. You can expect this to be heavy on the hits.
May 20th, 2005 12:37 PM
Jerry in Boston Honky Tonk Women
Get Off Of My Cloud
Satisfaction
Oh No, Not You Again
Let's Spend The Night Together (I always thought it would be cool for the band to pause and tease the crowd right before the line, "you know I'm smilin'..." and have the crowd scream: "BABY"!)
Beast of Burden
New Song
Tumblin' Dice
She's A Rainbow
Shattered
(Keith)
(Keith)
Gimme Shelter
Sympathy for the Devil
You Got Me Rockin
Brown Sugar
It's Only Rock and Roll

Encore:
Start Me Up
Jumpin' Jack Flash
May 20th, 2005 01:16 PM
Gimme Shelter Sympathy For the Devil
Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In the Shadow?
Dance Little Sister
She’s So Cold
Oh No, Not You Again
Tumbling Dice
Emotional Rescue
Lady Jane
Slave
New Song
Street Fighting Man
Coming Down Again
Little T&A
Start Me Up
Mother’s Little Helper
Sway
Fingerprint File
New Song
Honky Tonk Women
Shattered
Brown Sugar
Jumpin’ Jack Flash
May 20th, 2005 01:32 PM
Quarter Tone Sympathy for the Devil
I'm a King Bee
Sway
Satisfaction
Oh No
Let it Loose
Going Home
Time Waits For No One
Street Fighting Man
Coming Down Again
Mother's Little Helper
Brown Sugar

the seating charts i've seen indicate a B stage again, so.....

Start Me Up
Under My Thumb
Mean Disposition ( yeah right)

Midnight Rambler
Tumbling Dice
Paint it Black
Honky Tonk Women

Jumping Jack Flash

the boring obligatory new songs would be thrown in at random
May 20th, 2005 01:43 PM
VoodooChileInWOnderl LOL this is typical symptom before a tour let¿s call it pretour fever, and it gives an idea: To make a trivia again as we made for the No Security but let's wait for the album first to guess which of the songs in the album will make it on stage

BTW, I guess (and is also a wish) that "Stray Cat Blues" and "Have your seen your mother baby" will be on the set
May 20th, 2005 02:08 PM
gimmekeef Strip down Brown Sugar..make it nasty again 3-4 minutes near the start.I find the long Vegas style version done as a closer almost gets boring whereas Jumpin Jack seems to be better when elongated.....

Hey Marko!

Unfortunately there is never too many warhorses. It's inevitable like death and taxes.
This tour's nugget should be Sway. Also Child of the Moon would be a good one to shake up the amateurs.
I expect the same old same old openers or mix of openers. Paint it Black seems like an obvious choice for a new opener and would work fine.

Rick
May 20th, 2005 03:08 PM
gimmekeef Rick..yes Paint it Black....solitary light shining down on Charlie...then he starts to pound the beat..Instead of a Mick or Keith entrance....The place'd go nutzzzzzzzzzz
May 20th, 2005 03:20 PM
Dan I'd say start the show on the B stage but it looks like there might not be one now.
May 20th, 2005 03:49 PM
FPM C10 I hate to say it, but I can't think of too many great songs they haven't already done which they are likely to do. In past years it really seemed like they were reading the boards (or our minds) to decide on what to do - CYHMK, for instance, and "Some Girls", and "19th Nervous Breakdown", and doing "Midnight Rambler" on the B-stage - all stuff that a number of us said "wouldn't it be great if..."

The one classic oldie they haven't done is "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby", and I think if they do it it'll be like 19thNB and they'll drop it after a few game attempts.

Fantasy setlists are REALLY nerdy anyway. So I'm just going to wish for them to surprise me.

"Paint It Black" WOULD be a great opener. A great opener needs to be one that they nail consistently, which cancels out "Rocks Off", and it needs to be a big hit instantly recognizable by the rabble, which crosses "You Got Me Rockin'" off the list. Actually I hope that one isn't played, but it does seem to be one they do early in the set to get all the pistons firing properly.

But what do I know? When Mick got knighted, I said "we will never hear 'Street Fighing Man' again. Of course it was the first song they played on the Licks tour!

Keep 'em guessing, Ronnie!
May 20th, 2005 04:18 PM
marko YES FPM writing set list is VERY nerd, but we will talk about this anyway, and also Paint it black would be perfect
opener, they´ve never opened show with this song.
Theres LOTS of songs which should be played again,or haven´t been played at ALL.To be honest, most of them doesn´t work,or they can´t play them at all. There are few
nuugest still left.Like
down the road apice
carol
i got the blues
shake your hips(for clubs)
let it loose
dancing with mr.d
coming down again
luxury
fingerpint file
melody
fool to cry
hot stuff
far away eyes
some girls
slave
tops
ain´t no use of crying
she was hot
one hit
almost hear u sigh
i go wild
out of tears
low down
too tight
allready over me.

I am afraid of how it might sound with this current lineup!

I remember being at Soldier Field when Under My Thumb was the net choice. I automatically heard the '81 version in my head but when they actually started playing, it took the wind right out of my sails!
May 20th, 2005 07:27 PM
Soldatti More new songs (3-4), more 80's-90's stuff (3-4) and less warhorses.
May 20th, 2005 08:10 PM
JAK By far the best opening number they can perform is, One Hit To the Body. It has a tremendous opening riff, and is a song that I don't has been performed since the Steel Wheels tour.

TheSavageYoungXyzzy It's funny you say that, FPM. When they opened with "You Got Me Rocking" at the FleetCenter second time 'round in January of 2003, I thought to myself "Huh. I don't much care for this song on the album. Live, however, it really works." Maybe it was because at that point, the only people on stage were the Stones, the singers and Chuck (and Chuck was fairly low in the mix). The song really cooked, and both Keith and Ronnie got into it, which was rare last tour. The audience loved it, too. Worked wonders. I wouldn't mind seeing that again, although I, like you, would much rather at this point have them surprise me rather than come up with a fantasy setlist and get down again when they trot out a lot of the warhorses. I'm looking forward to the songs they wind up playing from this new album more than anything else.

EDIT: Inzane, a lot of those songs were played last tour (although "Parachute Woman" only once and it wasn't great) - I think you'll get your wish! It certainly seems that if they put "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" on the list it keeps Ronnie scared in line - the shows in Europe when they dropped it and Keith didn't pick up the slack were horrifying to hear.

Child of the Moon Personally? I wanna hear a lot of new stuff. I don't wanna hear warhorses, I'd like to hear seveal obscurities, but most of all, I wanna hear new stuff. That's what makes the Bridges-era stuff interesting to me... what they did with the new songs.
May 21st, 2005 11:13 AM
FPM C10 I agree. Saint of Me and Out of Control were both excellent live, exceeding the recorded versions by a mile. Flip The Switch was pretty cool most of the time, and I got to hear Might As Well Get Juiced the only time they played that.

A lot hinges on the new album. God I hope it's great!

padre This time it seems there's only one choice for the opener:
MONEY (That's What I Want)
